During the late half of the race at Phoenix, Chase Elliott found himself to be compromised for the championship battle after he was spun around by none other than Ross Chastain. Former spotter of Dale Earnhardt Jr, TJ Majors recently explained what he thought happened with Chase Elliott during that moment.

TJ Majors said, “I mean, I’m spot off because I think that kind of took, that was the, that was the race right there. That was where it was gonna get exciting and it kind of was like, alright, let’s see what happens here. Then it’s gone. But Ross made it an aggressive move and Chase kind of threw, I don’t know, Maybe threw a hate block, and they come together and the wreck happened.”

“But I think that the race was building up actually. At that point to me it was like, okay, you know, the 22 had a bad stop, got back in some traffic a little bit. And next thing you know, he started side by side with the nine and the one is right behind him, twenty’s row back, you know? So it’s like, okay, it’s starting to get interesting, who’s gonna do what here? They took the green and I was like, yeah, so you know watermelon the train struck again.”

Chase Elliott had more obstacles to overcome

The biggest problem near the end of the race was the fact that everyone had to start fuel saving or the leaders would not make it to the end. However after Elliott was called into the pits, Chastain and Logano were asked to save fuel on track, even if the non-championship drivers overtake them.

As Elliott marched out of the pits he was asked to go as fast as possible, after being informed that everyone out front was saving fuel.

However, by that point, there was no realistic chance for Elliott to have cut across the field and make it back to the top. The deed was done and Joey Logano claimed his second Cup Series Championship.
