It was coming; it was probably the worst kept secret in NASCAR, and now it’s official. Noah Gragson was recently announced as the new Petty GMS Motorsports driver from 2023 onwards.

The Xfinity Series talent will swap his seats from the current one at Dale Earnhardt Jr’s JR Motorsports and make his way up to the team of arguably the greatest stock car racing driver of all time, Richard Petty.

After this announcement, there was a flood of reactions from fans, including his current boss, Kelley Earnhardt Miller, who wished him well and appreciated this move, terming it as a step-up for both the driver and the team.

However, there were also a few, that questioned this move by Petty for signing someone like Gragson.

Noah Gragson on his move to Petty GMS

Speaking about his step-up to the Cup level with Petty GMS, Noah Gragson called “the atmosphere” and “the people” in his future team as one of the biggest factors in him making the choice.

 “I think that’s the most important thing is the people and being able to feel comfortable at an organization, that’s pretty unique as it is, I feel like. JR Motorsports, it’s been a home for me the last four years and the leadership and the same qualities that they really instill in their company, I feel like that’s what we’ve seen here at GMS,” he added.

Gragson admitted that racing with his new team will be “a big challenge” along with a ton of hard work, but with the right people and atmosphere, he can be himself.

“That’s when I feel like I’m doing the best job possible is when I’m like myself,” he emphasized.
