In his recent podcast, Dale Earnhardt Jr reflected on Ross Chastain’s antics at Gateway and his subsequent apology. Suffice to say, he was not convinced that the Trackhouse driver was fully repentant. Fast-forward to the Sonoma Raceway, and Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon was ready to agree with him.

During the race, there were a few close calls involving Chastain, and Dillon was not amused at all. It got to a point where team owner Richard Childress radioed him, “Don’t take no (expletive) form that 1 car”.

At that, Austin Dillon reminded everyone of last weekend. He quipped, “So much for all of those apologies last week. You know those were all (expletive).”
Why did Austin Dillon react like this?
Back at the World Wide Technology Raceway, Chastain annoyed Denny Hamlin and Chase Elliott with his antics. Hamlin retaliated, and the situation was out of control. After the race, the Trackhouse Racing driver apologized and appeared to take responsibility for his actions. However, Dale Jr. was convinced that the #1 driver was not thoroughly apologetic and was a bit over the top.

One week later and it seems that the apology has been thrown out of the window. This was because the driver raced aggressively and got far too close for comfort on many occasions. By the end of the race, poor old Austin Dillon was ready to give him a taste of his own medicine. Fortunately, Chastain did not take things too far. Otherwise, that would have been a much different can of worms.

On the bright side, we have two weeks before the next Cup Series race at the Nashville Superspeedway. This should give Dillon some time to calm down and enter the upcoming race with a cool head. Additionally, he, Hamlin, and Elliott will be hoping that Ross Chastain doesn’t drive aggressively.
