Fun and friends are as much a luxury as a necessity in life. Recently, two famous NASCAR drivers shared memories of a fun-filled eve on social media. Dale Earnhardt Jr and Denny Hamlin have had long successful careers in NASCAR, and they are no strangers when it comes to handling pressure situations. However, it seems that even when they are not racing professionally and looking to blow off steam, they still find themselves behind the steering wheel.

Two-time Daytona 500 winner Dale Jr posted a tweet recently with some photos of some really exciting moments from June 2008 in which the drivers were dunking it out on go-karts. The racers were at the “Dirty Mo Speedway” on Dale Jr’s property and making the most of the night. He also mentioned that AJ Allmendinger joined the team and made the evening even more gratifying.

Along with the photographs, he wrote, “June, 2008. Big night of go karts at our old track in the back yard. @AJDinger came by and took the checkered out of about 4 dozen racers that evening. Some good times. Ya never knew who might show up, and keeping it somewhat organized was a fun challenge.”

The co-owner of 23XI Racing, Denny Hamlin, agreed with his counterpart from JR Motorsports. He re-posted Dale Jr’s tweet and wrote “Man, those were some fun nights..”

Just a few days ago, Hamlin and Earnhardt Jr made headlines with their comments on the playoff format that NASCAR has introduced. The new playoff system was technically designed to get the TV ratings up and also to make the races more gripping for the fans. Instead, the system ended up creating more confusion and pushed the fans away, causing a drop in TV ratings.

In a recent interview during the NASCAR Champion’s Week activities in Nashville, Tennessee, Hamlin expressed how racing against 35 other people can affect the outcome of the championship. He further suggested that the championship race should be a three-race format and not four which will also keep fans more entertained.

These suggestions coming from the ace drivers have generated interest among fans and experts. However, it is not clear whether any such suggestions have been taken up by the organizers. Neither does it seem likely that these will be enforced in the upcoming season. However, it must be underlined that the organizers need to lend an ear to such voices of discontent. It might help expand NASCAR’s outreach. What are your views on the playoff format? Do share your invaluable opinions in the comments section below.
