Nashville Fairgrounds is a storied racetrack located in the heart of Tennessee. It has played host to some of the most memorable moments in NASCAR history. None more so than when Dale Earnhardt Jr graced its halls. He was a fierce competitor who always brought his A-game to Nashville Fairgrounds. However, as of recent updates, it seems as if Junior’s favorite track is under threat from the locals.

Recently, it was reported that the track would be receiving a $119 million package for its renovation. Although local neighborhood associations have decided to protest NASCAR’s decision to revive the track. They have cited several reasons which would apparently reduce the quality of life around the area. However, the majority of the issues seem to be the financial handling by the city towards the track revival.

They also argued that rebuilding such a track next to several residential neighborhoods would be considered a massive gamble for the city.

What did the neighborhood associations say?

The statement released by the interest groups stated, “Feedback and input from all residents is essential to present the best possible deal for taxpayers, and we expect a number of the concerns outlined in the letter to be addressed as part of the final deal terms. The proposed agreement shifts facility improvement and ongoing maintenance costs from Metro to Bristol, while not increasing racing at the Fairgrounds, reducing practice time, and installing state-of-the-art sound mitigation technology for quieter racing. We look forward to these discussions continuing.”

During a press statement, Junior had mentioned, “If they run Xfinity Series here, I’ll be here. I’ll run once a year. I’ll probably do that as long as I can and there should be a few more years of that. Hopefully, we can get the Xfinity here soon; the next couple of years because I’d love to come out here and compete.”

Currently, there are two major problems with reviving the race track. One is sound emission concerns and the financial benefit to the city. Now with the local residential association speaking out, it has created an added layer of complexity in the process. Despite its storied history and the many memorable moments that have taken place on its hallowed grounds. The future of the raceway remains uncertain. Regardless of what the future holds, Nashville Fairgrounds will always be remembered as a vital part of NASCAR’s past. A place where legends were made and careers were cemented.
