Dale Earnhardt Jr recently revealed a decision that came as an inspiration to many. After facing dire situations the last time he got behind the wheel of his #88 Chevy, the legend let the world know that he will do so once again in Miami this weekend. Getting on his podcast, he explained that his crew had been hard at work on the car that caught fire in Bristol a few weeks back.

Talking about how better his car is now, Junior discussed the race weekend and its schedule. However, the veteran is also aware of the fact that he could possibly face opposition from a different direction.

The Xfinity Series race in Bristol last month was Junior’s maiden start of the year. In his cameo behind the Chevy, he comfortably led the youngsters for over 50 laps when an electrical fire forced him to retire. Though he’d escaped the accident unscathed, it had left him with shaky nerves. Braving rough waters to give yet another shot at doing what he loves, Junior expressed his happiness at the prospect on the “Dale Jr Download” podcast.

Regardless of his readiness for what is to come on the track, an unforeseen enemy could drop from above and halt his plans. The weather at the Homestead-Miami Speedway on race day is supposed to be sunny according to NBC Miami with a 4% chance of rain. However, as feared by Dale Jr, unexpected showers could run down the day. He said, “In Homestead, there is a little weather in the area. I am not sure exactly where that nets us if it rains. I don’t know if we get to spot it or not. I have been told a lot of different things. We will just have to wait to find out if should we have to deal with any concerns on the weather.”

The Contender Boats 250 is a particularly important race for the driver owing to one main reason—his revelation about his mental health after the Bristol Motor Speedway accident.

Ahead of the Bristol race, the #88 driver had said that he was racing on the day so that his daughter Isla Rose could see what drivers like him have been doing all their lives. The 5-year-old ended up getting a harsher glimpse of that than what Junior had expected. Going to Homestead, he will hope to give her a more positive memory of her father behind the wheel.

Adding cause for his battle this weekend is his mental fight. Talking to co-host Mike Davis, he had earlier said that he felt alarmingly nervous before getting onto the track for qualifying. He said, “I was watching them (Pace Trucks) out the front of the windshield. I’m strapped in, waiting on them to wave me out onto the track right? And so the nervous tension crescendoed to a like… almost nauseating, puke moment.”

Junior’s emotions had worried the racing community, but thankfully, he is already back in the game with a fighting spirit. Homestead is a track, as revealed by him, a track that he enjoys racing at. In the 6 Xfinity starts that he has had in it, he has 4 top-10 finishes. Hopefully, any unscheduled misfortune won’t intervene the day and he will get to add a win to the books on Saturday.
