At the Nashville Superspeedway, Dale Earnhardt Jr admitted that he hopes to see his JR Motorsports team in the Cup Series. If this does somehow happen, then the former Daytona 500 winner has the ideal driver in mind. That person is none other than 2017 Cup Series champion, Martin Truex Jr.

This was because when Truex Jr. made his Cup Series debut, it was for Dale Earnhardt Inc. So Dale Jr. thinks that it is poetic to see the journey go full circle.
He said, “I was hoping that Martin Truex Jr. would want to come over and help us start our Cup team at JR Motorsports. That’s coming full circle, I mean, I helped him get started, so he might as well help us get started!”

“I wish it was that easy. We want to go, we are working our tails off trying to exhaust every opportunity. We want to go Cup racing. JR Motorsports absolutely wants to be in the Cup Series.”

What is Martin Truex Jr. up to in the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season?
Admittedly, Truex Jr is under a bit of pressure, as the Playoff battle looms in the distance. The bad news for him is that he does not have an automatic race win to fall back on to qualify. He will be relieved that Chase Elliott won Sunday’s Cup race at the Nashville Superspeedway, which means that the number of available spots has not changed after one race.

The next race on the calendar is at Road America, where Martin Truex Jr finished 9th last year.

In other words, this is a track where he has performed decently, so he is banking on a good finish. However, Truex Jr knows that a race win is not guaranteed and will have to buck up his performance.
