Against the backdrop of the Indianapolis circuit, the triumph of Front Row Motorsports wheelman raised many an eyebrow. In the first place, this marked his sophomore victory in the Cup Series, a feat revisited after a gap of seven long years. Additionally, conventional wisdom and popular sentiment had pegged Hendrick Motorsports‘ stalwarts as the favorites. After all, who wouldn’t put their money on the likes of Chase Elliott and the reigning table-topper of the playoff standings, William Byron?

Yet, in a twist, Dale Earnhardt Jr. threw a curveball by juxtaposing the established prowess of Hendrick Motorsports’ drivers with the new emerging dark horse.

The Hendrick Motorsports squad, with eminent drivers such as Kyle Larson and William Byron, has currently marked its territory among the top five contenders in the playoff standings. Their impeccable run on the track and their string of victories speak volumes of their prowess. At the recent Go Bowling at the Glen showdown held at the iconic Watkins Glen International, it was William Byron who took the checkered flag, registering his inaugural win in the NASCAR Cup Series on a road course. This tour de force by Byron accentuated his supremacy on the track, while also etching a pivotal chapter in his illustrious racing chronicle.

The latest feather in Byron’s cap is not only the crowning glory of this season, but it also eclipses any of his prior performances in the NASCAR Cup Series. In his half-dozen years in NASCAR, this season boasts his highest victory tally.

However, on a recent podcast, Dale Jr., in a tête-à-tête with co-host Mike Davis, called the Indianapolis sensation, Michael McDowell, the dark horse. He said McDowell could have potentially thrown a spanner in the works for the current shining star of Hendrick Motorsports, if not for the pit lane blunders faced by him.

Dale Jr. remarked, “William Byron wins, his fifth win of the season, fast in practice, once he got a lead, nobody could run him down. Denny and those guys were just hanging around, 2 and a half to 3 seconds back, and Byron was just light out.”

“We don’t really know how Michael McDowell would have felt because he had some trouble on the pit road drove through too many boxes, and this then the other, but he had some good decent speed. I think if he was able to keep the lead, I don’t know if Byron could have gotten from him,” Dale Jr. further added.

Moreover, the former NASCAR driver also tipped his hat to the captain of the Front Row Motorsports ship. He lauded his unwavering commitment and perseverance towards the team, even when sailing through the stormiest of seas over the past two decades.

Amidst the roar of engines at Indianapolis, Front Row Motorsports (FRM) basked in a golden moment when Michael McDowell clinched the team’s fourth grand accolade in the Cup Series. Since its inception in 2004, the team has navigated through turbulent waters, grappling with the challenges of sealing triumphs.

Yet, borne from Bob Jenkins’ unwavering faith and dedication to his brigade, the Sunday at Indianapolis bore witness to a triumphant outcome. Dale Earnhardt Jr. opines that the helmsman of FRM is truly deserving of a standing ovation for his audacious leaps of faith and his unyielding allegiance to his vision.

Dale Jr. eloquently states, “Bob Jenkins ought to be commended just for sticking it out, and you know you have an owner who is doing everything he could financially to put a team out on the race track. […] I’m not saying that it’s a place you can’t succeed financially, but he had to put up a lot of money himself to get in. He took the risk.”
