I think I’m probably one of the more misunderstood guys,” Denny Hamlin once introduced himself in a 2013 interview. Could this be still relevant 10 years later? Apparently, yes. Cocky, villain, dirtied (someone)—traits that are often attributed to the Joe Gibbs Racing driver. Yet, for a change, this time, we and Dale Earnhardt Jr were treated to a surprising stance taken by the 43-year-old.

Known for his ‘don’t care’ attitude, Denny Hamlin shows a whole different side of his to Dale Earnhardt Jr

As Denny Hamlin has his own podcast with the name ‘Actions Detrimental’ under the ‘Dirty Mo Media’ umbrella, it was only natural for the topic of podcasts to come up in the conversation. The discussion started with Junior encouraging Hamlin to host drivers on his podcasts whom Hamlin had “run-ins” with. This might not seem that out of the box as Dale has himself done that in the past, with Kyle Busch.

Being open to the idea, he also revealed how other drivers have requested him to bring up certain points on his podcast in the past. Since Dale probably didn’t expect such comradery between Hamlin and other drivers, he asked, “Are you surprised if those drivers were listening to your show?” It was here when the 43-year-old got candid.

He disclosed, “Am I surprised? No. [Because] if one of my competitors had a podcast, I’d listen.” This shocked Junior as he let out a loud, “You would?!” Explaining further, Hamlin added, “Absolutely, because I wanna hear their perspective. I genuinely care about their perspective is… how did they see the race go down? Is it what I thought?”

Speaking of hosting former rivals on the podcast surely seems like a good idea. And since Ross Chastain and Denny Hamlin have been at loggerheads for a while now, it would be interesting to see if Hamlin would like to have the Trackhouse Racing Star on his show.

The two drivers were in constant tussle this past year. The incident at Phoenix Raceway where Denny Hamlin intentionally rammed into Chastain, is still fresh in fans’ memory. The move saw Hamlin incur a heavy penalty of $50,000 and 25 driver points. But despite this and other not-so-friendly encounters, Hamlin said they both are good with each other.

“Aaw, man, the last time we texted is, well, clearly, there was an incident. I mean, that’s how long it has been since we text. We’ve talked in person since then—f**king small talk, you know. He’s standing right there; I’m standing right there; we can’t ignore each other; we gotta say, ‘Hey, how’s it going? Yeah, yeah, how’s your car? Yeah, yeah. I think in my mind we’re good based on what happens on the racetrack,” said Denny Hamlin in the same podcast.

Well, by the looks of it, the revival of the rivalry is still very much on the cards. However, it will be quite a show if Denny Hamlin does manage to get Ross Chastain on Actions Detrimental. Will they be able to settle their differences or will this open a Pandora’s box?
