Dale Earnhardt Jr Speculates the Reason Behind Chase Elliott’s Alleged Annoying Silence Against Ross Chastain

The 2022 season is over with Joey Logano taking the title. But to everyone’s surprise, the most promising Championship candidate, Chase Elliott had a rather tragic end to his season, after a contact with Ross Chastain’s #1 Chevrolet Camaro. Interestingly enough, even though all his effort was thrown out of the window by the famously risky Watermelon farmer, he had nothing to say about the incident.

But Dale Earnhardt Jr. seems to know why Elliott’s response was rather boring.

In a recent episode of the Dale Jr Download, he and his co-host, Mike Davis talked about Elliott’s vague answers after the incident. But Junior himself seemed to know that Elliott wouldn’t say much against the Watermelon Man as he said, “He just spun himself out. But he didn’t do anything. Egregious. But they wouldn’t say, Man. Ross wrecked. You go get him.”

Interestingly though, in a recent episode of Door, Bumper Clear, which is another one of the podcasts from Dale Jr.’s production house, Dirty Mo Media, featured Jamie McMurray, who happens to be Kyle Larson’s former teammate. And the co-host, Mike Davis talked about McMurray’s point of view, too.

Davis quoted Larson’s former teammate, “By the way, Jamie McMurray was on Door, Bumper Clear! recently. He said he just doesn’t think that Chase knew he didn’t know they were actually talking about something that actually annoyed me the most.”

Wait, but what is it that annoyed him so much? Well, he adds, “And that was the fact that Chase won’t state his opinion to anybody after a race. He plays it very, very, you know, he’s deliberately not answering the questions. And I wish Chase would just tell us. What do you think about that situation?”

This is where Junior’s immense knowledge of the sport comes in, because he seems to know the answer to Davis’ question.

Of course, it annoyed the fans a bit to see the #9 driver say absolutely nothing about the incident that ended any and every hope for him. But Earnhardt Jr. defended Elliott’s vague response.

Dale Jr. explained, “I think that if they were going to another race the next weekend he would have said more. But the fact that he was ending the year that weekend, he didn’t want that to be the sound bite for the next several months,”. He adds, “But what’s the last thing you’re going to say to a microphone at the end of a year when you’ve lost a Championship? Is it going to be complaints about Ross Chastain? Is that what you want to leave on the table? Is that the bookend that you want?”

That seems to have made sense as to why Chase chose not to say anything against the driver that got all the media drooling after Martinsville. Even his co-host agreed that Junior made a good point, “And then, therefore, the first thing that they ask about in February. You’re right.”,

That didn’t apply to Jeff Gordon though, “That didn’t bother Jeff Gordon, by the way, he had A lot to say about it.”
