The next riveting rendezvous at Watkins Glen looms large, and the specialists of NASCAR are fervently piecing together their suspicions, especially in light of the recent spate of dark horse victories.
Yet, in a twist of events, Dale Earnhardt Jr. turned the tables, putting one of the analysts under the spotlight and proposing a hypothesis about him rather than the pundit offering his own anticipations for the imminent Watkins Glen showdown.

Revisiting a dining escapade at Pocono with Steve Letarte, Jimmie Johnson, and others, Dale Jr. recounted an intriguing order. As many requested a “medium plus,” Johnson opted for a “medium minus.” However, after the server’s clarification on its non-existence, they settled for “medium rare plus.” Earnhardt Jr. graciously acknowledged that such culinary vernacular might be the norm in more upscale establishments, which they seldom frequent.
Nonetheless, in a candid reflection on Letarte, Dale Jr. noted his former crew chief’s penchant for such refined terminologies. His co-host candidly opined, “It’s pretentious as f*ck thing to do. If you can’t get by with rare, medium, or well-done, whatever it is, medium-well, if you can’t get by, that still doesn’t suit you; you are a bit of a diva.”
Extending the dialogue, Earnhardt Jr. expressed reservations about unnecessary formalities. He posited, “I think that names, name-tags, or any kind of thing, those things are important when you are talking to a service mechanical dealership, but I don’t need to know your niches.” According to him, essentially, while certain decorum is non-negotiable in business circles, it’s potentially superfluous in the NASCAR domain.
Offering a lighter note, Davis shifted the spotlight to Jimmie Johnson. “You are not going through their contract, initialing all the important parts of the contract. Well, that’s fun. But Kudos to Jimmie. He is the real hero of the story.”
Interestingly, as Earnhardt Jr. scrutinizes Letarte’s elevated lexicon, the latter dedicates his efforts to a detailed analysis, recently lauding the impeccable driving of Tyler Reddick and Chris Buescher in the Michigan race.

On the esteemed NASCAR on NBC podcast, Steve Letarte eloquently delineated how a dynamic duo successfully kept the formidable Martin Truex Jr. at bay. In Letarte’s eyes, their concerted efforts on the racetrack bore hallmarks of tactical brilliance and astute coordination. The synergy between Reddick and Chris Buescher, marked by adept drafting and harmonious pacing, saw them carve out a decisive distance from Truex Jr. on the Michigan racetrack.
Letarte reflected, “Chris Buescher and Tyler Reddick, I haven’t asked them. But I believe they purposely worked together, running first and second. They would draft down the straightaways; they would offset one car within the corner. Run both corners, never try to pass one another, pulled back in the draft, and stretched the lead over the #19 to six seconds.”

While the veracity of his analysis remains in the balance, he indeed appears more attuned to the nuances of sport rather than culinary discourse. And despite the fact that Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s revelations certainly offer an illuminating peek into the personalities within NASCAR’s inner sanctum, one might ponder if casting such seemingly critical aspersions was indeed warranted.
