NASCAR has finally stepped into Windy City. Kicking off NASCAR’s first foray into street racing was Bubba Wallace’s free-to-all ‘Block Party’. Aside from a live performance from Lupe Fiasco, fans even got to watch live pit stops and take NASCAR’s iRacing simulators for a spin. Amid all this, as the paddock is in Chicago, NASCAR decided to reignite the age-old New York vs Chicago debate in an interesting manner. And they went to the most interesting guy for the answer too!

NASCAR has been racing at road courses for many years now, most iconically at New York’s ‘Watkins Glen International’. Now, with the governing body organizing the race for the streets of Chicago, You may assume the debate is about the two tracks; which is better? But it is more than that.

While this ‘age-old’ debate may never near a conclusion, Dale Earnhardt Jr has stepped in, settling the debate.

What does Dale Earnhardt Jr prefer?

For years, people have been debating over the Big Apple and Windy City. In contrast to the fast-paced lifestyle of New York, Chicago offers a more laid-back lifestyle. Speaking of lifestyles, the spotlight of the debate has majorly focused on the unique cuisine both cities offer. While New York boasts over 70 Michelin-star restaurants and cuisines from all over the world, Chicago revels in its invention of deep-dish pizza. New York’s thin-crust pizza is prevalent all throughout the US. But with the Windy City offering its own twist on the inherently Italian meal, ‘The Great Pizza Debate’ has been raging for decades.

As the name states, Chicago’s deep-dish pizza has about an inch-deep thick crust, facilitating large amounts of cheese, tomato sauce, and toppings to be stuffed into the pie. The Big Apple’s pizza is rather on the other end of the spectrum, with a thin crust that is usually a little thicker and crispy along the edges. If you are to reach a decision on which pizza is the better of the two, NASCAR’s Veteran Dale Jr has picked his side.

In a recent Instagram post from Xfinity Racing, Junior answered 10 questions relating to the Windy City. In a segment titled ‘Fast 10’, Junior was thrown the choice of either deep-dish pizza or New York-style pizza.

Settling the debate once and for all, Dale Jr said, “I think I’m gonna have to go New York style!”

The addition of the Chicago Street Course to NASCAR’s 2023 calendar has seen an overwhelming response from fans. The downtown street circuit will have drivers trading paint through the narrow and slippery streets of Chicago. Although NASCAR’s decision to add the street course has seen its share of controversy, there is no denying that a majority of fans are eagerly waiting to see their heroes take on the challenging street circuit.

With the food debate settled, it wouldn’t be a surprise if fans once again are at loggerheads come August. Since 1986, NASCAR has been making a yearly trip to ‘The Glen’ in New York State. Home to the famed ‘Go Bowling at The Glen’ Cup Series race, the road course has turned into one of the most anticipated NASCAR calendar stops over the years. August 16th-20th, 2023 will see NASCAR light up the short course at Watkins Glen International. This might just give rise to a ‘Better Race Track’ debate among fans who will move on from ‘The Better Pizza’ debate.
