As much as social media has been credited with changing the scenario, there is also substantial proof of its demerits. People on various platforms like Twitter and Instagram have been quick to criticize the opinions of others and social media can be held responsible for it. Dale Earnhardt Jr. has also faced this many times in the past, being questioned over his thought process about something that people can easily differ on.

“You’re sad about it, you’re mad about it, or you don’t like it, you agree with the news, right?” explains Earnhardt. “But you don’t want to reply to the post. But you want to show that you acknowledge this in some way. The only way to do that is I guess, a retweet is one way, but a heart, a like.”

Being a popular personality, the views of someone like Junior are certain to be seen and known by many people worldwide. Co-host Mike Davis brings up the example of Rick Ware Racing’s competition director, Tommy Baldwin Jr., who has been diagnosed with cancer recently and has received well wishes from the community.

So, that’s a shoutout to Tommy, he’s going well there, and he’s going to fight hardcore. But again you’re faced with all this daily, where do you like the tweet? Do you not like it? Is liking it… How do you handle it, I don’t, I don’t like it.”

“But there are people that have liked it. You see there’s people that have liked it and you’re like ‘Man, is it okay to like it ’cause I like Tommy. I want to support what he is doing. I don’t know if he cares but maybe he does appreciate all the support.” stated Dale.

The reach that social media provides can be a boon as well as a bane. In a recent incident that took the NASCAR world by storm, Noah Gragson was found liking an insensitive comment on social media, which has turned out to be catastrophic for him. This underlines the fact that popular personalities need to protect themselves from problematic opinions that can land them in harm’s way.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. being a huge fan of the Washington Commanders is a pretty well-known fact by now. The two-time Xfinity winner has never missed a chance to show his admiration and respect for the NFL team he has been a fan of since his childhood. Using a reference to one of their former players, Joe Jacoby, to add clarity to his words, he says,

“This is a great example. Joe Jacoby is great. He’s done Hall of Famer but he’s not getting in. Year after year I see on my timeline from the people that I follow that are Washington Commanders media right. ‘Oh, another year and Joe didn’t make it’. And so, there was a tweet sharing the disappointment over that but I don’t have a disappointed thing I can click.”

Despite gaining some momentum in the process of getting inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame, Jacoby has been left out once again. This has sparked anger among some parts of the fanbase, who have let their displeasure known extensively on social media. Although Junior is of the belief that he indeed should have made it considering his achievements, he also understands the consequences of getting into the controversy.
