The former Cup Series driver has opened up about this and shared that he wants to ‘slap’ his younger self. Son of Dale Earnhardt also stated how the decision has changed his life forever. The decision he made has not only affected him but also two more people.

Talking about this, Dale Earnhardt Jr stated in a report published by The Charlotte Observer, “If I could talk to that version of myself — I would slap the s— out of me. I would. I’m so angry with that person, that decision, and that choice to split from Tony Sr.”
“That was a bad, bad choice. I thought in my mind I was going to be better off with someone else, that man I bet you there’s somebody else who can give me better cars … And that decision had an effect on Tony Jr. and Tony Sr.’s life, moving forward, for years. And my life. My career.”, further asserted the NBC analyst.
How was Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s relationship with Tony Eury’s family?
Tony Eury and his son Tony Eury Jr. have been long-time friends of Earnhardt and his family. Famous engine builder Robert Gee has two daughters, Sandra gee and Brenda Gee. Tony Eury Sr. got married to Sandra Gee while Earnhardt Sr. married Brenda Gee. And that is how Tony Eury Jr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr. come into the picture as cousins.

Despite the fact that Dale Earnhardt Jr. will always be one of the drivers with a respectable number of NASCAR race wins, he thinks he could’ve won a lot more, at least “35-40” instead of 26 Cup Series wins with Tony Sr, as his Crew Chief.
After spending a significant amount of time with Dale Earnhardt Jr, Eury Sr. found himself as the competition director of JR Motorsports. He eventually parted ways with the team in 2012.
