Several weeks ago, Kenny Wallace called up his longtime friend Dale Earnhardt Jr. and opened up about his itch to race. After a career spanning more than two decades, Kenny Wallace put down his driver’s gear and picked up a FOX Sports microphone as a NASCAR analyst. However, the thrill of racing had never left the 60-year-old. Although he had conveyed his wish to race in the Xfinity Series, Dale Earnhardt Jr. didn’t feel like it was a good idea solely because of the dollars it takes to run a single Xfinity race.

Instead, he suggested that Wallace should run his #36 FilterTime Chevrolet for South Boston, Va.-based R&S Race Cars in the Late Model Stock event in his CARS Tour debut. But the LMSC Tour wasn’t the only event that the Tri-County hosted. The spotlight from yesterday’s PLM Tour race at the asphalt short track fell not on Dale Earnhardt Jr. but on a brutal fight between two of the competitors, and someone else benefited from it.

The law enforcement team showed up to mitigate the brawl between #25 and #9

The history of the prestigious Old North State Nationals found its roots in the tracks of Tri-County. Hence, the anticipation regarding the race was quite high. But a tussle between Ashton Higgins and Gavan Boschele made Saturday’s race stand out as the duo wrecked on the ultimate lap.

Just with two laps to go, Boschele drove to the bottom of the racetrack around turns 1 and 2, but Higgins stuck to his lane. Seeing no other way to clear Higgins, Boschele nudged him. Ashton Higgins was able to maintain stability in his machine, but not for long. Just around turn 3, Boschele rammed the 21-year-old, which caused him to spin out and hit the outside wall.

A fuming Ashton Higgins got out of his car and, as Boschele halted in the pit lane, hit the windshield of the #25 car. But things didn’t stop at that. Seconds later, a fierce battle ensued between the two, which then sucked in their respective crew members. Amidst the commotion, fans saw everyone punching everyone until the law enforcement team had to hold both parties down.

Although the circumstances went out of control for Higgins and Boschele, Caden Kvapil left the Tri-County Motor Speedway in full control of the CARS PLM Tour championship lead. However, even his victory wasn’t a smooth ride.

There was a point in the race when Caden Kvapil battled Katie Hettinger for the lead, and in the process, both made contact. Leading the highest number of laps in the PLM Tour feature before the crash took place, Hettinger tried her best to reclaim the lead from Kvapil that she lost on a restart.

Kvapil got loose underneath Hettinger and hit her, causing the latter to lose control and collect several other cars in the pileup. To make the situation worse for Kvapil, the officials slammed him with the penalty of starting at the back of the pack on the next restart.

However, he did everything he could to overcome the misfortune. And when Ashton Higgins and Boschele made contact, the Mooresville native finally saw his window of opportunity. Losing no time to seize it, Kvapil parked his number 96 Concord Wealth Partners Chevrolet in the victory lane.

According to raceamerica.com, Kvapil never thought that he’d be able to bounce back from his miseries in such an unexpected fashion. He said, “I thought we had no chance starting dead last, but coming out of all of it in Victory Lane feels amazing. I know everyone was hating on me in the stands because me and Katie got together and caused a big wreck, but there was really nothing either of us could have done,” he added.
