Dale Jr. moving to Amazon—Is this the end of an era for NASCAR fans?

Dale Earnhardt Jr always has his hands full. Be his myriad of businesses, his team JR Motorsports, finding new talents, broadcasting, and more. However, he took his time to race at America’s hottest race!

He competed in the Hampton Heat at Langley Speedway recently, a venue known to be electric and with the most passionate fans. And he delivered a solid #5 finish and gave fans what they wanted. But seems like Langley means a lot more to him than everyone knows and isn’t just another stop on the racing circuit for him. Dale Earnhardt Jr recently shared with Cliff Daniels, Kyle Larson’s crew chief, the personal significance Langley has to him.

Everyone was excited to have Dale Earnhardt Jr at Virginia’s Langley Speedway. In fact, the event was packed and merchandise after merchandise of Dale Earnhardt Jr was flying off the shelves. The trailer in the entrance was one of the busiest places at the facility and, Reynolds, who was managing it, said that the lines of fans had been non-stop since the trailer opened at noon—talk about fan frenzy! Meanwhile, Dale Earnhardt Jr, even though didn’t have a great qualifying, did end up finishing fifth. However, Dale Jr got the result after a rather patient effort. He didn’t have the speed initially to compete with the race leaders, but in the final 25 of the 200-lap race, managed to make a mark. And he loved it there. 

But this trip to Langley wasn’t only about racing for Dale Jr; On his recent podcast episode, he shared with Cliff Daniels how Langley Speedway holds a special place in his heart. He discussed how the track is deeply connected to his mom, making the visit a poignant tribute to her memory. He said at Dale Jr Download, So my mom lived in Norfolk for 25 years and I’d go up there twice a year as a kid and every once in a while we’d get to go to Langley and I know the history of the track, appreciate it and felt very comfortable being there because of that connection with my mom.

Moreover, Dale Jr explained how his entire experience of driving a brand-new car on the track was. He talked about how certain adjustments hindered his performance, but then, strategy saved the race. Seeing how busy his coming months are deemed to be, this must’ve been a welcome relief.

Dale Earnhardt Jr might have a busy July, but what’s coming next season is going to be even bigger, and even more exciting. And in 2025, when new TV deals come up, Dale Earnhardt Jr will be joining Amazon Prime Video and TNT Sports as a commentator for both networks. 

It’s been a hot minute since TNT Sports aired NASCAR races, and now that Junior, one of the finest NASCAR veterans is joining them, nothing but the best is expected. Earnhardt Jr had earlier said how excited he was with the venture. He said, “It is such an exciting time to welcome TNT Sports back to NASCAR. I remember watching the races on TNT back in the day, and it’s so nostalgic to see them return to the sport and to be a part of their team.”

Amazon, too, is a huge platform and we saw the impact it made when it began streaming the NFL —it took live sports coverage to another level. Now, just like the NFL had Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit as announcers, bringing in their flair, when they stream NASCAR, Dale Earnhardt Jr is ready to make his mark for NASCAR fans on the streaming platform. 

It’s a huge opportunity for the sport, a chance to reach a wider audience. And NASCAR, for what we know, is doing everything it can to get fresh new eyes to the sport. In fact, news of NASCAR going international is making the rounds, with only an official confirmation left to come. Sounds like an exciting time ahead for NASCAR!
