However, after being hospitalized recently, it was announced that the iconic coach passed away. Recently, NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr put out a tweet sharing his experience with the coach years ago, while also posting a condolence message.

The Mississippi State coach sadly passed away after complications from his heart condition at the age of 61. Though a statement released by the Leach family stated, “Mike was a giving and attentive husband, father and grandfather…We are supported and uplifted by the outpouring of love and prayers from family, friends, Mississippi State University, the hospital staff, and football fans around the world. Thank you for sharing in the joy of our beloved husband and father’s life.”

Leach was renowned for his contribution to the world of college football and his varied interest in other things. At one point in time, he even authored a book about Geronimo (A Native American leader).
In a statement released by MSU president Mark E. Keenum, he mentioned, “Mike’s keen intellect and unvarnished candor made him one of the nation’s true coaching legends. His passing brings great sadness to our university, to the Southeastern Conference, and to all who loved college football. I will miss Mike’s profound curiosity, his honesty, and his wide-open approach to pursuing excellence in all things.”
