Dale Earnhardt Jr finds a Buddy Baker throwback shirt for his wife

During the High Limit Sprint Car Series race at the Speedway, an unexpected gift found its way to Dale Earnhardt Jr. A fellow racing enthusiast in the crowd handed him a shirt that bore a striking resemblance to the one Amy had cherished. It was a Buddy Baker throwback shirt from 1979–1980, a perfect match for the lost one.

Junior couldn’t contain his excitement and gratitude. He shared, “Buddy, I cannot wait to take it home and show Amy.” Later on, during the latest episode of his podcast, Junior shared his thoughts.

“Might be a little big for Amy but anyways, Amy lost [this]. This was the very first throwback shirt that Amy ever had, I gave her a lot of throwback shirts in the last several years and she wore some of them but that was the one she bought she picked it out. She bought it off of a thrift store. She saw it, liked it, purchased it. Didn’t even know who Buddy Baker was, she liked the shirt, she wore it a lot. But it got burned up in her luggage in a plane crash at Bristol.

“It was gone and I’ve been looking high and low for this shirt. Cuz it’s kinda rare, 1979, 1980 Buddy Baker shirt. This guy hands it to me right there in the crowd, and I said to him, I said, ‘Buddy, I cannot wait to take it home and show Amy.’ And so I am looking forward to… about the time you hear this, I would have showed it to her, I haven’t told her. I texted her and told her I have a surprise for you. It’s a little large. The shirt she had was a little smaller but we’ll see.”

Dale Jr reveals his thoughts on racing alongside Kyle Larson in the High Limit Sprint Car Series

While Dale Earnhardt Jr was at the Lernerville Speedway as a spectator, the presence of Hendrick Motorsports star driver Kyle Larson, the owner of the High Limit Sprint Car Series, raised questions. Could we expect to see Dale Jr behind the wheel of a Sprint Car, perhaps even competing against Larson?

To the disappointment of some fans, Dale Earnhardt Jr ruled out the possibility of wheel-to-wheel action in a Sprint Car, at least for the near future. Although he expressed curiosity and a willingness to learn, he acknowledged the immense skill of the Sprint Car drivers he had witnessed. When the reporter asked Dale Earnhardt Jr about getting the wheel of these sprint cars, he said:

“Absolutely. I mean, it’s any kind of race or you’re curious about it. And I’d love to learn I know Jimmie [Johnson] drove Bowman’s car last year. So I’m sure there’s a scenario where I could get an understanding of what they’re doing.

“But after sitting here watching those guys go around the track. I had no business out there trying to compete with them. That’s insane and impressive how good they are and I really admire the skill it takes. Glad I’m able to be here to witness it and look forward to seeing many more races in my future.”
