At long last, after several years of trying, Dale Earnhardt Jr might finally realize his dream. This dream is about seeing his JR Motorsports team graduate to the Cup Series. For a long time, the team had been tearing up the Xfinity Series scene and churning out talented drivers every year.
The team also accrued four Xfinity Series titles and continues to go strong to this day. With the Xfinity success, the next and most obvious step has to be a move up to the Cup Series. Sadly, though Dale Jr. and his sister Kelley have tried their hardest, the move never materialized until now.
Truthfully, this is not the team making a full-time debut in the Cup Series. Instead, they are simply attempting to race in the Daytona 500. In short, the organization is merely taking baby steps toward the grand goal of a full-time debut. The driver who has the honor of piloting the #40 JR Motorsports car, is defending Xfinity Series champion, Justin Allgaier.

Dale Earnhardt Jr is going to be heavily involved in the project
Dale Earnhardt Jr said on his podcast, “Let’s talk about this on a very personal level, between you and me. I’ve reached out to the crew chief, ‘What’s the status.’ He’s like, ‘well, I’m already building the chassis.’ I’m like, ‘Alright, I want to come see that. I want to see this process come together,’ right? I’ve told Amy, ‘I want to be there, as soon as the car gets pushed out on pit road. I want to be there in the garage, when they’re rolling it out of the hauler.’ Want to see it and want that for you [Kelley Earnhardt-Miller] too. I want to do those things with you. I’m really looking forward to that, regardless of the end result.”
This team is practically his and his sister’s brainchild, so it was natural that they wanted to see it through. So he has already kept in touch with the team and monitored their progress. Instead of being the silent owner, Dale Jr wants to be actively involved in the project and see it get off the ground. It would serve to validate himself and Kelley as serious NASCAR team owners. Especially at a time when people like Michael Jordan, Pitbull, Brad Keselowski, and others, are succeeding in the field.

According to Kelley Earnhardt-Miller, having Justin Allgaier perform well in the Daytona 500, would be perfect. It would be the culmination of years of hard work, four Xfinity titles, and several talented careers kicked off, all leading to this moment. Of course, none of this was achieved by the two of them alone. Rick Hendrick and Hendrick Motorsports were among their biggest cheerleaders and confidantes. Dale Jr also admitted, “It’s a cog in the big wheel of all the things we’ve done around motorsports. It is one I definitely can’t wait to experience together.”
How has this golden opportunity come to pass?

Of course, given NASCAR’s and the Daytona 500 regulations, starting is not guaranteed. The #40 Chevrolet will collaborate with Grammy-award-winning artist Chris Stapleton. In essence, he will sponsor Allgaier for the Great American Race. After all, no NASCAR driver and team can survive long without a major sponsor backing them.

Additionally, Allgaier will have to qualify for the iconic race, either through outright speed or winning the qualifying races. If he successfully achieves this, then JR Motorsports has already created personal history. With engineering help from Hendrick Motorsports, Dale Earnhardt Jr insisted that the priority is making it through qualifying via speed.
The biggest hurdle behind JRM’s full-time Cup Series debut is the eye-watering eight-figure charter price. Already, 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports endured a lot of drama in the off-season, regarding that. Dale Earnhardt Jr and his sister really did not want that headache for themselves. Still, this is the closest they have been to actually racing at the Cup level.
