“When ya gotta go, ya go,” replied Dale Earnhardt Jr. to a curious fan back in 2014. Well, you can probably take a wild guess at what the question was. Sitting in a race car for up to four hours, consuming fluids, and sweating profusely – being a NASCAR driver can be an ordeal. While the pressure builds up on your racing strategy anyway, there sometimes can be added pressure elsewhere – requiring a different form of stress release.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. has had a love-hate relationship with the bathroom in his NASCAR career. Once, he cried in the bathroom after a miserable Richmond qualifier. But when it comes to using the car as a restroom, Dale Jr. has a genius hack to avoid making a mess.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. lets out the lighter element
Well, nature’s calls have afflicted several NASCAR drivers. During a Charlotte race in 2023, Tyler Reddick allegedly let go of himself mid-race. Denny Hamlin faced the same ordeal last year in Atlanta, admitting that he “kinda liked it.” But what Tony Stewart reportedly faced during a Watkins Glen race in 2004 was worse. While Hamlin and Reddick were facing a problem that could be solved by a urinal, Stewart apparently needed the cubicle. While that can be a daunting and embarrassing experience in itself, drivers may face it at any time. Dale Earnhardt Jr also faced it – but he has a hilarious yet effective mechanism to block it.

The NASCAR Hall of Famer appeared in a recent episode of ‘Bussin’ With The Boys’ with William Compton and Taylor Lewan, former NFL players. Compton dropped the awkward question: “Have you ever had the bubble guts… while you’re out there racing?” Dale Earnhardt Jr confidently clarified the football quarterback’s doubts: “No, I never s— my pants.” Dale Jr continued: “There’s an art to getting the gas around the poop and getting that out.” Dale then proceeded to educate everyone as to how it is done.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. delved into the serious topic, divulging his secret of holding back. “So like the s—‘s coming, you’re going to s—, right? But if you can get the air around the s—, that buys you a little time… It just takes the pressure down… I could fart. If I need to s—, I could probably relieve the pressure without s—-ing the pants. So I never s— my pants.” Junior also said his body acts in sync with his driving. “Whenever you’re in the moment – whether you’re in the race, you’re driving home, and you’re like, ‘Holy s—, I gotta get to the f—— toilet, ‘ your body knows when you’re near that toilet.”

While talking about this awkward topic, Dale Earnhardt Jr. showed no hint of embarrassment. We saw the same carefree attitude when Dale Jr.’s wife Amy divulged a nasty habit. In a 2024 Dale Jr Download episode, she said his incessant habit was “blowing your nose in the bath towel… He’ll hang it back up.” Yet Dale Jr. brushed it off by saying, “I’ve been trying to stop.”

And Dale Jr.’s experience with releasing gas doesn’t stop there. He also admitted on his podcast, ‘Bell Your ‘Hardt’ with his wife, Amy Earnardt, that he let loose at the white house! Dale Jr. recalled being invited to meet President Barack Obama and making a silent mark on the occasion. Dale Jr. told Amy, “I walked around behind the desk and was just standing there, and I was like, ‘Oh, I got a little fart here. You know what? I’m just going to leave it right here.’”
Well, the information that Dale Earnhardt Jr. shared with the NFL players certainly surpassed all nasty levels. However, while Dale Jr. dealt with a release from the lower end, Tyler Reddick had to deal with an upper release last year.

Reddick ran out of options
“I’m throwing up, s—ing myself, all of the above.” Tyler Reddick‘s frantic rants over the car radio during the 2024 regular-season finale at Darlington left fans worried. But post-race, the 23XI Racing driver clarified that he was just at risk of vomiting. Yet even that was a challenging nightmare that Reddick could never forget. He apparently caught a stomach bug from his son Beau, and the symptoms set in after crossing a bump on Turn 2. As Reddick’s condition worsened by the end of stage 1, his team handed him crackers and pills. After accidentally dropping those in his car, Reddick received a water bottle with crushed pills inside. That somehow sustained him through the end of the race, when he won the regular season title!
After the race, Tyler Reddick recollected what a daunting challenge it was. If his team had not helped, it could have turned into a scenario that Dale Earnhardt Jr. fears. “They were feeding me the right stuff in the car to help me manage it as best as I could… At one point, I was just waiting to puke all over myself. Thankfully, they kept that from happening. A whole lot of other gross stuff. We were able to avoid a lot of that, which was nice — but it was extremely uncomfortable in the car all night.”
