In NASCAR, manufacturer rivalries are nothing short of intense battles. Chevrolet, reigning supreme with 41 Cup Series championships, has had a stronghold throughout the history of the sport, leaving Ford trailing with 17 and Toyota with 3. The 2023 season also started with Chevrolet’s dominance. 12 victories with 6 of their drivers is a testament to that. But Ford’s resurgence, capped with two consecutive wins, is shaking up the competition.

Dale Jr spoke with Rich Nye from 13News ahead of the race at the Indianapolis Road Course. “Fords have made a resurgence, if you will, over the last several weeks. Especially winning two races in a row with Chris Buescher. I think he’ll actually have a good run. But the Ford performance across the board has been interesting because it was a Chevy-Toyota battle throughout the first half of the year. And have the Fords find some speed and pace has been a good thing for the sport and parity in the sport,” he said.

In a recent episode of Dale Jr Download, Junior and Davis pondered over the emerging championship battle. Dale Jr said, “Some of the Chevys have struggled here lately. The Fords are now—you know if they can keep this going, I think they’ll be extremely impressive. And what it does is it launches new players into that championship conversation. A guy like Joey Logano, who basically snuck into the championship race last year, and won the championship. Ryan Blaney, who has struggled over the last several weeks, who came out of the box fast, and I still have him pegged as my championship driver this year. Who, I’m not going to—it’s who I picked—I’m not gonna jump ship middle of the season.”

“But as the Fords are getting stronger, this certainly pushes some of the Ford drivers back into the conversation of who can win the championship. Six of the top ten in the race at Richmond were Fords,” he concluded.
