NASCAR has witnessed a lot of drama in the past few days. One of the most surprising ones came from NASCAR Xfinity Series though. Josh Williams caught the attention of everyone with his bizarre exit from the Atlanta race after being asked to bring back his car to the garage following a caution. After being frustrated with the decision, the DGM Racing driver parked his car at the start-finish line before walking to the pit road. This certainly wasn’t going to end well and Dale Earnhardt Jr has had his say on this.

It is understandable how frustrating it must have been for Williams, but was it right on his part? Is this something other drivers agree with? Well, certainly Dale Jr isn’t one to side with the Xfinity Series driver.

Junior has never been someone to necessarily side with the popular opinion. He likes his own perspective and is always vocal about this. Speaking on the Williams incident, he had loads to say on the recent episode of his podcast “The Dale Jr Download”. When asked if banning the 29-year-old for a week would be the right thing to do, Dale Jr said, “I feel that’s probably likely and a fair penalty for something like that.”

He further explained the reasoning behind his opinion. The 48-year-old said, “I like Josh, he’s a great guy, I joked around he’s kind of the Kenny Powers of our Xfinity Series and that’s a total Kenny powers move. I swear the comparisons are right there to draw but you can’t interrupt or delay the race itself or do anything, you just can’t do that. So, I think whatever NASCAR thinks to do for this particular penalty, I think it will be a fair one.”

Not only that, but Dale Jr also explained why such moves worry him. He added, “I don’t know if it [the Atlanta incident] helps Josh going forward in terms of his career, his future opportunities. I know Josh is working as hard as anyone in the garage to get the opportunities that he feels that would give him a chance to show people what he can do and that he belongs in the series and could drive good race cars to wins.

“And so does that put him in a better situation to do those things or get those opportunities, that’s what I worry about. As mad as he was or frustrated or whatever in the moment, you can’t just hijack the race there.”
While the three-time Daytona 500 winner had his say, the fans don’t quite have the same thoughts on it.

What happened in Atlanta was an unexpected event, but one thing that is assured was NASCAR’s reaction to it. Amidst so many penalties being issued by the governing body, there was little chance for them to not take any action on this.
With NASCAR’s latest announcement, a behavioral penalty for Josh Williams is confirmed. Obviously, it has not gone down well with the fans. Given his fan following, there have been some furious reactions.
