Earlier today, the NASCAR Xfinity Series field got underway for the second race at the Richmond Raceway. For this second race, Dale Earnhardt Jr was commentating.
When he spoke about it in his podcast, he admitted that it was a new challenge for him and he truly enjoyed it. The former driver commentated during the start of the ‘Virginia is for Racing Lovers 250’ race.

Later on, he was on call for the Federated Auto Parts 400 to commentate for the Cup Series race. He even observed that Austin Dillon and the Richard Childress Racing car was particularly quick.
How was Dale Earnhardt Jr in his commentary gig?
Some were worried that Dale Jr could let slip some expletives since he was notorious for it in his racing days. Luckily, he was able to keep things clean during the broadcast.
Obviously, the NASCAR Hall of Famer knew that there would be millions of people tuning in.

Whatever the case, he will always be the face and voice of modern NASCAR. When he spoke about his budding commentary career, he said, “I just hope I can be good enough to be able to stick around and do it as long as I want.”

It is safe to say that Dale Jr is now making a name for himself and stepping out of his father’s shadow. He can surely carve out a niche for himself in the broadcast field.
His analysis can also be useful, since he is still a semi-retired racer. In other words, he is far more in tune with the current generation of drivers. So, his insights will be far more modern, compared to other pundits.
