The rain poured relentlessly on Sunday. While it was successful in barring the Xfinity race to restart and come to a conclusion, it was merciful on the most awaited Cup Series race of the year in Chicago. They used their slick tires, took up their seat behind the wheel, and made sure the memorial day race weekend did not go in vain.

But the 100-lap race was cut short to just 75 laps due to a late restart and the fading sunlight, which made it impossible for the drivers to navigate their ways on the puddled-up streets.

Nevertheless, the rain-filled race was more memorable than one could expect, as fans witnessed how the finest of drivers like Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr., and others stumbled to make their way on the narrowed-down tracks. Shockingly, they eventually got locked up in a huge and peculiar pile-up.

Dale Earnhardt Jr takes a dig at drivers make a mess of themselves while taking a turn on the track

There is no denying the fact, that on a regular day, the city of Chicago witnesses an overwhelming amount of traffic as daily commuters try and squeeze their way out on the bustling streets. This traffic is a constant source of headache for the residents, but they have adapted themselves without getting involved in those uncompromising circumstances.

On the contrary, the Cup Series drivers got a taste of what it feels like to drive on the streets of a metropolitan during rush hour. While racing on a water-filled street was already a source of apprehension for drivers on the alien track, nonetheless, the drivers involved themselves in a massive “logjam”.

After witnessing the massive pile-up from the booth as the drivers failed to take a right turn, Dale Earnhardt Jr was heard saying in the background, “There is a stack up and too narrow for everybody to go.” He asserted, “You gotta go right. There are seven cars sitting, and nowhere to go.”

The scene was nothing less than a chaotic spectacle for the fans who are accustomed to these scenes on a regular basis. However, it was completely bizarre for all the fresh eyes tuning in to watch NASCAR’s first street race in Chicago. The incident occurred at Turn 11, as the street took a 90-degree turn to the right from Michigan Avenue onto Jackson Drive. The racers who are accustomed to taking turns on their left, faltered poorly when it came to turning right. This led to the clogging up of the track, as 14 cars stacked up against each other.

It was William Byron who first spun out and hit the barriers. And in order to avoid Byron, Kevin Harvick, and Corey LaJoie spun out causing a major ruckus of cars hitting each other with nowhere to go.

Moreover, fans pointed out how the Cup Series driver stumbled when taking a right turn. They took to Twitter, to put down their hilarious comments and rubbed salt on their wounds.

Many wrote, “When a NASCAR driver has to turn right.”

“They always turn left. They don’t know how to turn right.”

Lol, this is so trash compared to F1. These guys take one right turn and struggle.”

What happens when NASCAR drivers need to make a non-left turn let alone a street track LOL I know people are going to get triggered over this but, @F1 over this by a mile. And it’s not even close.”

Others also commented, “Normal rush hour traffic jam.”

“All those golden arches – the drivers were mesmerized and thought it was a tunnel entrance.”

“I see a lot of parking tickets in the future.”
