The NASCAR Cup Series race at the Darlington Raceway was an exciting affair for drivers and fans alike. The wrecks, bumps, and action made it a banger of a race. Unfortunately, Josh Berry, who was racing as a replacement for Alex Bowman, he could only muster a lowly 30th spot in the exhilarating race. Still, we can not forget that Berry’s performance over the past few months as a substitute for HMS drivers has gotten him on the radar for a few teams, which can further allow him to become a permanent part of the Cup Series next season. Seeing this, veteran of the sport, Dale Earnhardt Jr gave a very inspiring message to him.
Berry drives full-time in Xfinity Series for JR Motorsports and part-time as a relief driver for Hendrick Motorsports. This year he raced in five races, replacing Chase Elliott, and gave some remarkable performances. While Bowman sits out, given his injury, Berry has been seen behind the wheel of #48 for three races now. Looking at his massive potential, as per sources, he is in the process of finalizing a long-term deal to replace retirement bound, Kevin Harvick. The SHR driver is set to bid the sport adieu after the current season.

In a recent episode of ‘The Dale Download Jr’ podcast, the legendary driver shared a piece of advice he gave Josh Berry. During the Darling race, the JR Motorsports owner was “hanging out on the 48 pit box.” He shared that it was fun to be there and interact with Bowman’s new crew chief, Blake Harris, while he also appreciated his way of working. Dale Jr acknowledged that Berry, driving the #48, had a really rough day at Darlington as he had “gotten into the wall a lot.”
Dale Jr reminiscing his time, shared from his experience, “I told him, I said, it reminded me a lot of my first race at Martinsville. Where I didn’t have anything, even the steering wheel was bent. And you’re gonna have those days and that is the track where one of those days it’s going to happen. That track is as hard as it gets, as tough as it gets. And you’re gonna have some nightmares on Sunday at Darlington, for sure if you’re going to have a career in the cup series.”
These few words of motivation coming from such a legendary driver certainly would have helped Berry learn to keep his mind straight during the race, despite the hurdles.

Another fan expressed concern about losing a talented driver to a rival manufacturer, saying, “While that would be great for Josh, I selfishly would hate to see Chevy lose such a great up-and-coming driver.”
“If Rodney remains on the box, that is a duo that can contend for multiple race wins within the first year,” another fan mentioned.
While a few other fans were concerned about the impact his exit would have in the Xfinity series. Though nothing is confirmed as yet, Berry still has a couple of more weeks to show his talent driving for HMS in the Cup Series.
