Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been known for several feats. Ranging from his 26 Cup Series victories to co-owning his very own Xfinity Series team – JR Motorsports – which won its fourth championship in 2024. At the same time, he co-owns and manages CARS Tour, a short-track racing springboard for rising racers. However, nobody could expect that Dale Jr. would be criticized for his CARS Tour ambitions.
The 15-time Most Popular Driver award has been interested in all kinds of racetracks. In fact, he has a penchant for reviving such venues, as Dale Jr. helped renovate the North-Wilkesboro Speedway. Yet a disgruntled fan thinks he is biased, and is questionably involved with a renowned journalist.
Another social media slugfest

Remember the Denny Hamlin-Marcus Smith spat back in April 2024? Well, a similar fallout occurred recently over Twitter. But it did not involve Hamlin, NASCAR’s black hat, and the Speedway Motorsports Inc. CEO, nor was it about crumbling racetracks. This time, a Kyle Larson worshipper lashed out at two entities for an apparently biased approach. Larson recently dazzled by clinching his third Chili Bowl Nationals victory, which was covered by famous NASCAR journalist Matt Weaver. Weaver, in his usually fascinating style, dissected Larson’s victory thoroughly, especially due to the two opportune caution flags.
However, a fan mistakenly surmised that to be calculated bias towards Larson. And somehow, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was keeping Weaver on his payroll. “The Chili Bowl needs to refuse entry to the uninitiated, fake twitter “journalist” Matt Weaver,” the diatribe began. The fan then bashed Dale Jr.: “He’s paid by Dale Jr to cover a competing asphalt series (cars tour, which dale jr owns). This is clearly a conflict of interest for @FloRacing and @cbnationals. Secondly, Dale Jr has a fiduciary interest in the downfall of dirt racing and the success of asphalt racing. Another conflict of interest.” On the contrary, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has always been a proponent of dirt racing. Back in 2018, he lobbied for NASCAR’s Cup Series to add a stop to Eldora Speedway, a renowned dirt track.

Yet the unhappy fan continued his stance, this time maligning Matt Weaver. “His coverage of this race is clearly slanted to negatively shape the Chili Bowl’s perception. Look how he begins his article, attacking the winner, downplaying his achievement, and most importantly downplaying the chili bowl format. This only further cements my first point. Lastly, he doesn’t know dirt racing, he spreads falsities that downplay the racing, and he regurgitates nonsense that fuels the false successes of corporate rookies over those who have given their all to compete in the chili bowl for years to raise its platform.”
However, Matt Weaver is far from these claims, as his history shows. And he had a good comeback for this lashout.

Well, Matt Weaver poured water on all the points that the disgruntled fan mentioned. He savagely began his comeback: “I hate to provide oxygen to intellectually dishonest dimwits but just in case anyone buys this bulls–t.” Firstly, Weaver is a former dirt racer himself, so claiming that he does not know the sport is too misinformed. He drives a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado that has covered 450,000 miles. Then his association with Dale Earnhardt Jr. is also heavily derailed from the truth. According to Weaver, the only business contact that he has had with the Cup Series veteran was in 2022. That was regarding a query about hosting the Short Track Scene, Weaver’s own media house, on Dirty Mo Media.
Matt Weaver continued to dismantle the fan’s notions about his financial standing. CARS Tour has never paid me. “I’m $10,000 in debt on STS as an investment, believing short-track journalism is important to the industry at my personal detriment. I’m lucky to get advertising support that pays dimes on my dollar. I also lose money covering dirt. I had some supporter help but lost $500 doing Chili Bowl last week. I’m not losing money the way I do just to bury something. It’s not additive to anything. Ditto my Sprint Car coverage.” Weaver then gave an apt conclusion, destroying the fan’s argument. “I’m providing you the attention you so crave but only to call you an imbecile.”

Evidently, this argument assumed a feisty nature in no time. Hopefully, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Matt Weaver will soon be cleared of the charges this fan mounted.
