Hendrick Motorsports star, Kyle Larson is well-known for competing across racing disciplines, in parallel with his duties as a Cup Series driver. Somehow, the 2021 Cup Series champion can make it work in all fields of racing. Recently, the #5 driver was competing at the Volunteer Speedway in Tennessee. In one of the most intense one-on-ones seen in recent times in Late Models, Larson battled hard with Jonathan Davenport for the lead. Safe to say, many went ballistic while watching, including a certain Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Larson and Davenport traded the race lead several times until the former pulled away and extended his lead. From there, Davenport came under threat from third place and eventually got overtaken. Despite finishing third, the Larson–Davenport battle was the highlight of the race, as they kept overtaking each other almost at every third lap.

There were so many times when Larson would dive down the inside of his rival but often end up on the outside lane. Nevertheless, he refused to give up the ghost and continued scrapping away for the race lead. As he crossed the finish line to win the race, it transpired that one of his rear tires had exploded. Luckily, he had built enough of a lead for 2nd and 3rd to not trouble him as he nursed the car to the line.

Larson enjoyed a great day in the office last weekend at the Richmond Raceway, getting his first win of the season. Now, he will be aiming to keep up the momentum at this weekend’s race at the Bristol Motor Speedway. What makes this race noteworthy is the fact that this is a dirt race.

However, the same cannot be said for his team, Hendrick Motorsports. The team has been embroiled in a fair bit of drama of late. However, “all’s well that ends well’ for HMS, as they managed to get the points penalties rescinded. As for the four-race suspension of crew chiefs, Freddie Kraft put it succinctly as he said, “They don’t care about the crew chiefs not being there because they’re still there.”

Now, there is even more drama, as two Hendrick cars have been hauled up again. Fortunately for Kyle Larson, he is not one of the guilty parties.
