If the drivers are the engines that drive NASCAR forward, it’s the sponsors that are the fuel that keeps them going. On July 11th, Busch Light, owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev, the largest brewer in the world, announced their multi-year deal as the primary sponsor of Trackhouse Racing‘s driver Ross Chastain. Recently, the team and the driver were praised by Dale Earnhardt Jr for securing one of the most sought-after sponsorship deals in NASCAR. Junior said that Chastain now has all the ingredients to become one of, if not the biggest star in the sport.
Dale Jr also opened up about his own sponsor back in 1999, Budweiser, also owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev.

In the latest episode of The Dale Jr. Download, Junior candidly shared a story from his past when he and his father, Dale Sr, went on a dinner to meet the Busches, the owners of the Budweiser brand. Mike Davis said that the new sponsorship for Ross Chastain could work out well if he’s a beer drinker. This prompted Dale Jr to share a candid story from his past about his own sponsor, Budweiser. His 6-word revelation has the potential to upset his old sponsor. Here’s what he said.
“When I teamed up with Budweiser in 1999, I was not a beer drinker, not at all!”
He continued, “We were going to the first dinner — the Busch’s that owned it, they were at this dinner in Charlotte. They came to Charlotte to have dinner with me and Dad. We’re driving there, and I’m like, ‘Dad, do I gotta drink a beer at this thing?’ He’s like, ‘You’re damn right you do.'”
Dale Jr started laughing remembering those times and continued, “I was like Dad I don’t like beer. And he’s like ‘You’re drinking one tonight’ he said. Get one of them red Coke Budweisers and you’re gonna sit there with that at the table and I don’t care if you have to sip on it the whole dinner and I’m like all right no problem.”
After digressing for a while as Dale Jr does every so often, the hosts circled back to the main topic. Dale Jr spoke about how the new sponsorship with Busch Light could work out for Ross Chastain. He said. “I would love for him or anybody when they get a big sponsorship like this for it to be the sponsor every single week. We’ll find out next year when we go to the racetracks where are they going to have Busch on the car. I think this is sort of one of the final, if not the final box to check for Ross. He now has all the ingredients to become one of, if not the biggest star in the sport.”
Everyone seems to be chiming in to praise Chastain and his team for the new deal. All the while, Chastain himself candidly joked about the new sponsor in a recent interview.

“When did they first like first reach out to you regarding sponsorship for next year?” Chastain was asked.
“I’m not gonna get into all the details of the business,” said Chastain. “But uh, it’s been probably the worst kept secret in the sport for a little while now. But yeah, we’ve known it for a little while. And you know got that set for next year and the years to come.”
