In NASCAR, is it the team that is the most crucial part of racing? Or is it the driver, or the machine? Well, many experts on the sport are of the opinion that the communication between these three plays a crucial role, and Dale Earnhardt Jr is one of them.

While running a billion-dollar racing enterprise with teams and their drivers and crew, it is likely that the stakeholders will experience a few hiccups on the way. And it is almost inevitable that things will go haywire if proper communication channels between the stakeholders are not set in advance. From massive penalties to open admissions of wrongdoing, NASCAR seems to have seen it all these days. In the latest episode of The Dale Jr. Download, Dale Earnhardt Jr and his longtime friend and co-host Mike Davis discussed the recent happenings in NASCAR.

Dale Earnhardt Jr reveals his thoughts on the cause of recent events

A lot has happened in NASCAR in the past few days with the organization slamming huge penalties on Hendrick Motorsports, Kaulig Racing, and Denny Hamlin. This has caused a major uproar in the community as many fans believe the penalties to be a little too harsh.

Speaking with Mike, Junior revealed his dissatisfaction with the clarity and extent of communication that goes on between NASCAR and other stakeholders. He said, “But think about the line of communication of, you know, where they can work. I mean all of the emails and back, you know the going from approvals, the CAD, the pieces to get approved from the manufacturer to the organization NASCAR, then back to the teams.”

His co-host interrupted to add, “It’s flawed, it’s susceptible to miscommunication.”

Dale continued, “It sounds like something could be dropped and misinterpreted, right?”

Junior clarified how things worked between the manufacturer, the company, and the team, and how strenuous it can be. But he certainly believes there’s scope for improvement.

He explained, “So I mean that line of communication is not uncommon in NASCAR but to be doing this for every single part and piece on the race car and as they continue to get redeveloped and redesigned and resubmitted, it seems like it could get a little murky.” 

The 2x Daytona winner never shies away from speaking his mind. Later in the podcast, he also opined, “I think this penalty is a little too severe.”

Now that Hendrick Motorsports and Kaulig Racing are appealing against the penalties, we will have to wait and see if NASCAR changes its stance.
