This weekend is the NASCAR Cup Series race at the Martinsville Speedway. However, some amount of focus has shifted to the upcoming race at the Bristol Motor Speedway. Last year, the drivers had their first dirt race experience and many enjoyed it. However, there were a few who are still not fond of the return to the dirt arena. Chief among them is NASCAR living legend, Richard Petty, and even Joe Gibbs Racing driver Kyle Busch agreed with him. According to Busch, NASCAR needs to ‘cut the cord’.

He echoed Petty’s words, suggesting that ‘dirt takes our sport backwards’. The NASCAR legend said, “I have to be careful here. Because there’s some politics involved, and I don’t want to annihilate NASCAR on this. I guess I’m looking at it from an old-time deal because we spent years and years and years trying to become a professional sport. Years and years to get away from that stigma. But dirt-track racing is not professional, so we’re going backward. It would be like taking a professional football team and going back to play at a high school field.”

What else did Kyle Busch say?
The #18 driver even talked about the JGR team reaching a landmark 200 wins in the NASCAR Cup Series. He admitted that it would be pretty special to the team. However, it would not be such a big deal for him, as he grabbed most of them. One would suggest that it is a little arrogant of Busch to say that, however, he does have the stats to back him up.
Continuing about dirt track racing, Busch declared that it was a ‘mess’. According to him, it was not indicative of putting on a good show for the fans. He believes that big heavy stock cars behave a lot differently on a dirt track, as opposed to a sprint car. For now, though, the driver is looking forward to the Cup race at the Martinsville Speedway.
