As NASCAR approaches the conclusion of the season, with only six races remaining before the playoffs, the competition for the P15 and P16 is seemingly heating up. One of the best four to five drivers, including Daniel Suarez, Michael McDowell, Bubba Wallace, and AJ Allmendinger, find themselves in a close fight for these coveted spots. The battle for these positions has been filled with ups and downs as each driver strives to outperform the others. Dale Jarrett comes out to talk about the intense nature of the sport and the importance of playoffs.

However, it’s worth noting that there are other talented drivers not far behind who have the potential to win races and launch themselves into the playoff bubble. The erratic nature of the sport makes it impossible to predict the outcome, as any driver could deliver a strong skit and seize that valuable spot.

Recently, the 1999 Cup Series Champion shared insights into the intense playoff battle. Using Austin Dillon as an example, and reminding us that the stakes are high, Jarrett adds an extra layer of excitement and suspense as the season nears its end.

Dale Jarrett spills the beans about the “Playoff Bubble”

During a podcast called “NASCAR on NBC,” Dale Jarrett, along with host Nate Ryan, delved into the possibilities of drivers qualifying for the playoffs. They discussed the incredibly close point differentials among the four drivers, with Bubba Wallace, Michael McDowell, and Daniel Suarez separated by a mere one point. Following them is AJ Allmendinger, not far behind but just 20 points subordinate to McDowell.

Drawing from last year’s playoff battle, Dale Jarrett, the 1999 champion who is now an NBC analyst, emphasized the significance of the Daytona 500. Dale highlighted how Austin Dillon secured a playoff spot by winning that final race at Daytona last year, surpassing other notable contenders. Jarrett believes that this year’s results at Daytona are capable of playing a crucial role once again.

He said, “This is gonna be a battle down to Daytona, you know we talked about the battle at Daytona of someone trying to win to get themselves in much like Austin Dillion did last year and working his way into the playoffs by winning that race.”

He also contemplated the scenario in which no one from outside the playoff bubble manages to win the race, and the qualification relies solely on points.

“Yeah, it could come down to the battle for the final spot in the points at Daytona here between you know two three possibly even four drivers and my gosh you think about the finishes we had there and how long it might take NASCAR to figure out for everybody finished the number of points they got and do that 16th place finish or might possibly be.”

With the tight points battle among the four drivers, the standings can change at any moment. Bubba Wallace, if not others, has a promising lineup of tracks ahead that typically yield better results for his Toyota. However, this has created some tension for Michael McDowell, as he expressed his thoughts after the New Hampshire race.

McDowell, as per NASCAR news, said, “When I look at the guys around us, I’m definitely nervous because we know Bubba has some great tracks coming up and the Toyotas have been fast. AJ is super strong on road courses, and I feel strong on road courses as well. It’s hard to bet against AJ on those. If you look at the guys we’re racing, Suárez as well, he’s good at the same tracks that I’m good at.”

However, Bubba Wallace faces his own challenges, as he has been grappling with car issues this season. Additionally, Chase Elliott, who is six spots behind Daniel, is a driver who never gives up until the very end. He possesses the potential to win one or even two races, propelling him into the playoffs as well.

The remaining six races are bound to deliver an exhilarating battle as drivers fight for those two coveted playoff spots. And above all, the anticipation is palpable for the Daytona race, adding an extra layer of excitement.
