It is common knowledge that Dale Earnhardt Jr is an avid fan of sim racing. In fact, he even competes under his own name, which has often led to some hilarious situations. Furthermore, Dale Jr is rather fond of iRacing, so it was only fitting that NASCAR paid tribute to the 48-year-old. Normally, the sport hosts its annual eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series championship.

This championship will be renamed in Dale Jr’s honor. The former NASCAR star even shared some exciting news in store for the fans. He wrote on Twitter, “AND… I got to design this years trophy. Im confident that the winner will be extra happy and the losers will be extra sad.”

How did NASCAR fans react to the news about Dale Earnhardt Jr?

Naturally, many people were thrilled at the news and congratulated him. According to them, there wasn’t a more fitting namesake for the series. Especially since he has done a lot for the sport of NASCAR, in terms of promoting it and helping popularise it. After all, there is a reason why he was the Most Popular driver for multiple seasons.

All in all, everyone knew that Dale Jr was the perfect ambassador for the sport. Owing to this, he deserved to have the eNASCAR series named after him, since he is a gamer as well. It is worth mentioning that the former Hendrick Motorsports driver does not pigeonhole himself into racing games. Instead, he likes to branch out into different genres of video games and enjoys all of them.

This news comes barely a day after Dale Earnhardt Jr celebrated his 48th birthday. Without a doubt, this would have been an excellent birthday gift for the NASCAR Hall of Famer. Though one has to wonder if he will try and enter the series and win the title, which was named after him.
