For the last few years, the Spire Motorsports team has largely been stuck in the midfield or near the back. However, it is worth mentioning that the team does have one win under its belt. All thanks to Justin Haley in 2019 at the Coke Zero Sugar 400. Aside from that, the team has largely been average on the track. However, ahead of the 2024 season, a highly confident Corey LaJoie was seen making several big promises.

LaJoie told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, “The expectations internally between [crew chief] Ryan Sparks and I. I feel like, if we don’t make the playoffs, we’ll be pretty frustrated. We got so many great additions to our race team. Moved shops, and there are four Truck teams in there with us. The entire #77 crew with Luke Lambert leading that team is going to be super strong. We’ve been more or less operating as a one-car team in the last three years. With this new car, trying to fine-tune and refine that baseline is so important.

In the buildup to the 2024 season, the team has been keeping itself busy. As it happens, the team has been doing some serious shopping, starting with the purchase of a new charter. To field the #71 car, Spire Motorsports bought the Live Fast Motorsports charter for $40 million.

Building on the same, Corey LaJoie continued, “For us, only really have one car’s worth of information to get better. Has stunted our growth, so to have three teams now. Got the Trackhouse Alliance with that #71. We have a great partnership with Hendrick Motorsports on the engine side and pit crew side as well. We’re gonna win, I would be very upset and probably frustrated. Feel like, internally we probably didn’t meet our marks if we didn’t win or find ourselves in the Playoffs.

The #7 driver is confident that his team is capable of breaking into the Top 15 consistently. He believes that if that happens, then the top 10 finishes cannot be far behind. In 2023, the team managed to snatch two Top 10 finishes and had the potential for more. Sadly, they could not capitalize on most of their chances.

Corey LaJoie acknowledged that it will be a massive learning curve, especially since the team has more philosophies and the culture and expectations are different. However, he is confident that the organization will be a dark horse. Frankly, they had better deliver the goods because the team has spent a lot of money. If Corey LaJoie and his teammates fail to perform, then all that money will have gone down the drain.
