But it seems that Corey LaJoie is just steps away from living his dream of a lifetime, as he reveals in his pre-race interview in St.Louis.

After being dished out with a one-race suspension, Chase Elliott is set to sit outside for a race after right-hooking Denny Hamlin at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Although Josh Berry had been filling out as a substitute driver for the HMS Ace. However, Rick Hendrick chose Spire Motorsports’ Corey LaJoie to replace Elliott.
And the Spire Motorsports driver spilled the beans on his excitement and how he almost missed the opportunity. In the pre-race interview, media personnel asked, “Have you been sleeping?”
To this, the driver added, “Like a baby. And because it’s weird man. It’s like the dream is during the day right now. You get the call from, I missed the call from Mr. Hendrick, so he left me a voicemail. I woke up to it on Wednesday morning. I told my wife, ‘Honey, I missed the call.’”
He added, “But luckily he answered when I called him back on Wednesday morning. And since then it’s been a drink out of the fire hose of just information and preparation and just a level of perfection. Those guys expect this. It is really cool to see the first three-four days leading up here at St. Louis.”

In order to satiate the curiosity as to what the conversation was, one of the reporters asked to give a sneak peek into the conversation.
The substitute driver of No.9 replied, “It was just like, hey Corey, it’s Rick Hendrick here just wanted to let you know that you’re filling in under these circumstances. Appreciate the help and I know you are gonna do us a good job.”
LaJoie also expressed, “I was thinking about this, there is a couple of young people in here that might be playing NASCAR video games growing up like NASCAR 2004, 2005. Like, you would start your career mode like the bottom team and then you’d like the call up for the next team and next team. And then you get a notification from Rick Hendrick to drive that car and like you, run your career mode, that’s what I felt lying in bed on Wednesday morning.”
