Quaker State 400 at the revamped Atlanta track was nothing but a crazy aggressive race with drivers going pedal to the metal from the get-go. While the veteran Kevin Harvick bid farewell to the iconic track one last time, NASCAR nation saw the rise of a 25-year-old when William Byron of Hendrick Motorsports came back around to clinch his 4th win of the season despite the early adversity.
Though a pit road penalty and a spin on the tracks proved costly for the driver, the HMS phenom showed his tenacity and grit as he rallied home with the win, climbing to the #1 spot in the rankings.
Recently, NASCAR released its Radioactive segment where the community saw Corey Lajoie taking full responsibility after bumping the #24 Chevy off the tracks in stage 2. The Spire Motorsports driver, in an effort not to displease the boss-man, Rick Hendrick issued an apology to Byron on the radio.

Tussles and wrecks are nothing new in NASCAR, but unnecessary and intentional acts of vengeance are usually shunned by the community. NASCAR nation saw this when Ross Chastain and Kyle Larson got into a bloody battle with Chastain getting the worst end of the exchange when his Trackhouse Racing co-owner came out with strong warnings for the driver.
Following their third encounter at Darlington, all hell broke loose when Rick Hendrick called up Chastain, ending his feud with the HMS driver. While Chastain did not reveal their exact conversation, it was all the more clear to the community that this incident indeed has Chastain on the back foot as the #1 driver was no longer the wrecking ball he used to be.
With this incident going viral, Corey Lajoie did not want any smoke from the boss-man as the #7 driver issued an apology to Byron, who he spun off the track.
Lajoie on the radio, said, “Sorry Willy [William Byron], I was looking in my mirror, though I was clear,” whereas Byron asked his crew, “I just got hooked there right?”
The adverse conditions and the frantic pace of the field certainly made the race thrilling. However, Byron was on rough seas as an early pit road penalty took off his momentum while the incident with Lajoie got him further down the ladder. Unfazed by the setbacks, the 25-year-old sensation put on a stellar performance to win the rain-shortened race.

But what got the #24 driver falling back was a seemingly unsuspecting penalty in lap 66. Finishing Stage 1 in the top 5 Byron was cruising into the next stage when a crew member went over the pit wall during the pit stop, trying to grab a tire, prompting NASCAR to levy a penalty. This, however, had serious repercussions as the 25-year-old fell to the tail end despite going into stage 2 in the top 5.
