Corey Heim will be driving Sam Hunt Racing’s No.26 Toyota GR Supra for several races this year in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. The 21-year-old will make his first Xfinity Series starts of the season at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 2. The full schedule of additional races is yet to be revealed by SHR.

The five-time winner in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series has previously featured for Sam Hunt Racing in the 2023 Xfinity Series. During his limited schedule with the team last year his best result was at Darlington Raceway where he finished in the top-10. Having displayed his racing skills in the Truck Series, this move to run another partial schedule in the Xfinity Series will be a huge boost for the young racer.

In a short stint of four races with Sam Hunt Racing in the Xfinity Series last season, Heim was perhaps unable to put out his best efforts. However, with the opportunity being presented to him once again, the 21-year-old is eager to get into the driver’s seat for SHR’s No.26.

I can’t wait to join Sam Hunt Racing again in 2024,” said Corey Heim optimistically as per the official team website. “I saw improvement throughout every start I made with SHR in 2023 from top to bottom, including in myself as a driver. That’s really what I’m looking for in a partnership — the constant push to be better, and I know SHR will continue to make that their goal in 2024. It really excites me as a driver to be part of a group like this. I’m looking forward to building this year together and contending for wins.”

Toyota has been proactive in its approach to finding racing talents and Heim is certainly one of the rising stars. He is also under the Toyota Driver Development (T2D) program. The team at SHR has been open to welcoming Heim for another partial schedule for the Xfinity team. “Everyone at Sam Hunt Racing is excited to have Corey back with us at an expanded capacity in 2024(…)He embraces and believes in our group, and he is willing to put the work in to grow with us and compete at the highest level possible.” said Sam Hunt, owner of SHR.

Heim could’ve had his hands on the 2023 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship but contrary to that he was penalized by NASCAR after the final race at Phoenix. The young racer was fined $12,500 and also docked 25 points for his actions on the racetrack. This came after Heim appeared to have intentionally wrecked Carson Hocevar with few laps of the race remaining.

Tricon Garage did make the case that the wreck was not intentional and the incident was not payback for an earlier scuffle the two drivers had before in the race with 30 laps to go. The NASCAR officials did not budge and were firm on their decision. It caused a disappointing end to the season for the Tricon Garage’s No.11. The penalty had no impact on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Owner’s Point Standings, where the No. 11 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro for TRICON Garage finished in third-place
