In a season-ending twist at Phoenix Raceway, the Craftsman Truck Series witnessed a dramatic turn of events that left fans and experts questioning NASCAR’s judgment. Corey Heim, the driver of the No. 11 Tricon Garage Toyota, found himself fined $12,500 and docked 25 crucial points by NASCAR officials. This stern penalty followed a series of events involving Heim and fellow driver Carson Hocevar in a race that ended with Heim dropping to fourth in the championship standings.
The first incident unfolded on Lap 120 when Heim’s truck spun out after contact with Carson Hocevar. The other one happened close to the end of the race with 3 laps to go when Corey Heim caused Carson Hocevar to smash into the wall as Hocevar was attempting to pass Heim in turn 2.

After the race, Heim claimed that he lost control due to significant damage to his right rear and was struggling to maintain control due to a loss of sideforce. However, NASCAR officials reviewed radio transmissions from Heim’s team and unearthed troubling violations. These violations encompassed attempts to manipulate the race or championship outcome, wrecking or spinning another vehicle, and actions that compromised the safety of the event. This revelation forced NASCAR’s hand in penalizing Corey Heim.
As a result of the penalties, Heim tumbled down the championship standings from third place among the title-eligible drivers to fourth. However, this shift has no direct implications for the championship, with Ben Rhodes ultimately crowned as the champion. What’s more, Carson Hocevar did not get any penalty for his mistake earlier in the race when he wrecked Corey Heim on lap 119. As a result, he moves up to third in the standings from the fourth spot.
Renowned NASCAR journalist Bob Pockrass shared the breaking news via Twitter, stating, “NASCAR has fined Corey Heim $12,500 and docked him 25 points for his actions during the truck race Friday night.”

After the season finale at Phoenix, the majority of the NASCAR community was upset with Carson Hocevar. They have had enough of Hocevar causing chaos in the races this season.
It began at Atlanta earlier in the season when Hocevar caused a late race crash in Atlanta that sent the race into a two-lap overtime. Christian Eckes was the winner of the wreck-marred Atlanta Truck race. Then again, at Kansas, Hocevar was involved in an aggressive crash at the front of the field along with Eckes, DiBenedetto, and Purdy. The wreck at turn 1 knocked out all the trucks.
And finally, at Phoenix in the finale. It was clear that the incident between Hocevar and Heim on lap 120 was clearly Hocevar’s fault that damaged Corey’s truck, to begin with, and ultimately cost him a chance at the title as well. However, Hocevar turned out 3rd time lucky and walked from his wrecking spree yet again.
When a fan asked Bob on his tweet if Hocevar got any penalty, Bob replied that he received no penalties. He wrote, “No penalty to Hocevar and he improves from fourth in points to third in the standings.”
