Once a test driver, Shane Van Gisbergen (SVG) has come a long way and has truly made his mark. It looks like he’s even picking up tricks from seasoned NASCAR pros like Denny Hamlin, who are masters at keeping their cards close to their chest.

This time, the cool and collected Supercars champ has decided to play it similarly. Despite a rough qualifying that landed him in P33 at Texas, SVG didn’t let that dampen his spirits. Instead, he took to Twitter to send a message—not just to his fans but maybe to the other drivers too—that he’s getting the hang of things, improving with every lap.

Shane van Gisbergen is ready to shake things up at Texas, bringing his A-game. With a podium in Atlanta and a solid sixth in Phoenix under his belt, SVG’s showing he’s no slouch on the NASCAR circuit. Even after a rough qualifier at Martinsville that only saw him start in P19 place, he hustled his way up to P11 by the race’s end. Now, he’s eyeing an even spicier comeback at Texas.

Despite this being his rookie year in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and facing a challenging start at the speedy Texas Motor Speedway, SVG isn’t sweating it. This marks his first time starting below P30, with his previous low being P25 in Vegas. He confessed he might have played it way too conservatively while getting the hang of the massive 1.5-mile oval. But now, he’s flipping his cautious approach into a bold strategy, oozing confidence as he aims to turn his lowest qualifying into a standout performance at Texas.

Shane van Gisbergen hit up social media to share his thoughts, saying“Pretty crazy to check out another big track, they might take me a bit to get a hang of! 😀 Way too conservative at the moment but getting more comfortable with every lap 👍 Looking forward to a fun race tomorrow! @WWEXRacing.” SVG’s knack for making moves on race day is getting pretty clear. He’s had a solid season so far, and his climb from P23 to P6 in Phoenix shows just what he’s capable of. He’s racked up five top-15 finishes in seven races, not counting COTA where he nearly clinched a win before it slipped away in overtime.

Scoring a win in the NASCAR Cup Series can really make a driver’s year, especially during their first season. SVG has already been turning heads with his solid runs in the Xfinity Series. Looking ahead, he’s planning to use this season to stack up some solid performances without the weight of huge expectations.

“No one expects me to go on and win on the oval at Richmond or Martinsville on my first time, so that’s kind of good. I can settle in and do my thing, getting a good result. People do get surprised when I got third at Atlanta people were pretty excited about that. That’s awesome, they don’t expect me to come in and be dominant. So it allows be to be under the radar a bit, go at my own pace, with no pressure,” SVG explained.

In fact, with several road course additions in the schedule this season, don’t be shocked if SVG clinches a win or two. Hence, no one can count him out of playoff contentions just yet.
