The racing world’s attention is laser-focused on Arizona as the last championship race looms on the calendar. The Phoenix finale promises one ultimate, heart-pounding showdown this weekend. However, amidst all the anticipation, significant changes are afoot in the RFK garage. Brad Keselowski and the RFK camp have had a season marked by headline-grabbing resurgence, securing three wins. Though they narrowly missed the Championship 4, their strategic gameplay was commendable.

But, as the championship showdown nears, unexpected news struck the racing community. RFK racing maestro, Brad Keselowski, will be absent from the Phoenix scene on Saturday.

Will the 2012 Champion Return in time for the Championship race?

The 39-year-old family man is expecting his third child this month with his wife, Paige Keselowski. As the schedules clashed with the championship race, Brad Keselowski left for home as his wife went into labor.

RFK Racing swiftly announced that Cole Custer would step in for Keselowski during the qualifying session. The hope is that the 2012 champion will return on Sunday to drive the No. 6 car in the Cup Series Race. Nevertheless, Cole Custer remains on standby, prepared to take the wheel of the No. 6 in case Keselowski’s absence becomes necessary for personal reasons.

The official statement read, “Brad Keselowski will not qualify the No. 6 car today, due to his wife, Paige, going into labor. In place of him, Cole Custer will qualify the car later this afternoon. The expectation is that Brad will return to Phoenix Sunday to drive the No. 6 in the NASCAR Cup Series Race.”

And if he does return on Sunday, Keselowski will be required to start at the rear of the pack. With Keselowski temporarily out of the picture, all eyes turn to a young, familiar face – Cole Custer. But he also has another big job at hand this weekend.

With three full-time seasons in the top tier of the sport under his belt and experience driving the No. 41 for Stewart-Haas Racing, Custer’s journey took an unexpected turn this year as he stepped down the ladder, moving back to the Xfinity series.
