It is safe to say, the Bristol Motor Speedway dirt race received much criticism on many fronts. Last year, Richard Petty expressed his dislike for dirt racing. Quite recently, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Rodney Childers, Brett Griffin, and many more, expressed similar sentiments. Of course, Earnhardt Jr, Childers, and Griffin’s main issue was that the race was held on Easter, a traditional holiday. However, the likes of Clint Bowyer went in the other direction and praised the move.

Ironically, it seems that the Easter dirt race paid off handsomely on the TV viewership front. As it turned out, Fox TV managed to boast of 4.007 million viewers, the highest viewership at Bristol. To make matters even sweeter, the viewership is up by 17% compared to the 2021 season and the first dirt race.

While Clint Bowyer didn’t outright say that the Bristol dirt race should say on, it was implied. This is because his simple response on Twitter suggested that the numbers speak for themselves. Apparently, this was an experiment to see if NASCAR could take advantage of the fact that people will be home watching.

Now, reports say that on the back of the 2022 race’s success, there is scope for more Bristol dirt races. BMS president Jerry Caldwell said, “Bristol Motor Speedway will prepare for a spring night race on dirt in 2023, giving the fans two great NASCAR shows on different surfaces. The dates for our NASCAR events will not be available until later this year.”

Of course, this would not be what Kyle Busch, Richard Petty, and other like-minded people will be hoping for. However, the drivers will have to grin and bear it, as it seems that the Bristol Motor Speedway dirt race isn’t going anywhere.

Ironically, Kyle Busch won the race, even though he was not a big fan of racing NASCAR cars on the dirt. Now, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver is looking forward to this weekend’s race at Talladega. Meanwhile, Clint Bowyer is looking forward to commentating for that race.
