Martin Truex Jr sorted out one of his most crucial life decisions last week at Iowa. Though the news had been in rumors for many years, Truex Jr finally put the rumors to rest and announced his retirement from full-time racing after the 2024 season. However, it seems like his racing journey might not be completely over. After all, both the driver and the team mentioned precisely that he would retire from “full-time” racing. So, an occasional racing gig seems like a possibility for Truex Jr! And he has expressed interest, except it might not be under the Joe Gibbs Racing banner.

But the future isn’t the only thing on his mind. As the reigning champion heads into New Hampshire, Truex Jr has mixed feelings about what Sunday’s race will bring.

Martin Truex Jr would want to exit on a high, but he has not won a single race yet. He had a stellar chance of winning at Sonoma, given his history with the track–but alas, luck had other plans. Now only a few races remain before the playoffs start and the New Hampshire race might be his best chance to make it into the victory lane. As during the last season, he secured his first win at the track. He led 254 laps, earning a perfect driver rating of 150.0. However, going into this race, he doesn’t seem as confident.

Ahead of the race, when a reporter asked him if his prior race experiences would help him gain momentum on the track, he didn’t quite think so. According to him, he is having difficulty navigating through the short tracks at the moment. Martin Truex Jr said, “I think um there’s going to be a lot of it’s going to be different you know the tires I think are a little different from what I hear and um you know the short track package this year is different so I think for us you know we’ve still kind of been searching a little bit I think to try to figure out the package and‌ get the feel in the car.”

But Joe Gibbs Racing has another driver who is an ace at the same track and in short tracks, Christopher Bell. Therefore, Truex Jr is looking toward the no.20 driver to see what’s exactly working for him on short tracks. He said, “The 20’s been really good on the short tracks with this package so we’ve kind of been looking at that and trying to figure out you know what is that we’re not quite doing right.”And if Bell is who he is looking at to make changes, there seems to be a good chance that Truex Jr might take home the win. Because Bell did in fact end up winning the Xfinity race on Saturday!

Every race is crucial for Truex Jr because it might be the last time he races there. However, even if the New Hampshire race does not turn out well this season, he might have another chance to make it work.

Martin Truex Jr when announcing his retirement did mention that he won’t be out of the NASCAR picture altogether. He is going to be present at JGR fulfilling other roles. Yet, his recent interview ahead of the New Hampshire race hinted that he might be willing to be back on the racing track and as a driver.

He said, “ I haven’t really looked into all that yet and started the scheduling process. Kind of just focused on what we’re doing here but you know eventually we’ll figure it out and it’s definitely a place I would love to come back to.

And he has a personal connection to New Hampshire, which is why he wants to come back racing here. After all, he grew up watching his dad race at the track. And Martin Truex Jr doesn’t have a dearth of options. As another team 23XI has their doors opened for him. Hamlin had mentioned just last week publicly that his team 23XI will always have a car ready for Truex Jr. And seems like the duo had a great chat and Truex Jr fans can rejoice because their favorite driver might just be in a car next year. Truex Jr said, “A few things to figure out, but it seems like we will be able to do some races if we want, which will be awesome. Excited about that.”

Right now, getting to the pole might be his only aim. He is currently fifth in the NASCAR Cup Series standings. What do you think? Will he make it to the victory lane this weekend? Let us know!
