Ask a NASCAR driver what they’d want ahead of the race and they would mention one crucial thing–practice! With NASCAR’s decision to cut down the practice sessions ever since the COVID era, things have become difficult for drivers. After all practice makes perfect, isn’t it? Testing out the track ahead of the race gives a driver certain advantages. Practice allows them to familiarize themselves with the track and fine-tune their strategies. But Christopher Bell, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver going to the New Hampshire race for both Xfinity and Cup doesn’t think Saturday’s race will help him out in any way for the Cup race.

Additionally, he doesn’t just have the advantage of doing a doubleheader this weekend. Bell has two major advantages that can aid as a ticket to the victory lane. But he isn’t attempting the doubleheader alone, there is another driver. And unlike Bell, he is geared up to make the most of his chance.

The first advantage for Christopher Bell, going into New Hampshire, is for sure the fact that he is going to run extra and practice extra since he is going to drive for Xfinity ahead of Sunday’s race. The fact that he gets to test the waters out gives him an edge over the rest. But the 29-year-old Joe Gibbs driver doesn’t believe so.

Talking to the press, he said that the advantages are not so crucial anymore because of how different the cars really are. He said, “Yeah, I mean, I think the advantage from Saturday to Sunday is pretty much gone. The cars are completely different, the shift patterns are different, and the way they react in corners is almost irrelevant from Saturday to Sunday. So now it is just about enjoyment and track time. It’s very hard to take anything from Saturday to Sunday.”

But don’t mistake his words, because he still is very much in contention to win the race–after all he is called “Loudon King.” People refer to him as such because of his stellar track record in New Hampshire. His Xfinity Series history is completely flawless. He has won all three of his starts, from 2018 to 2021. And in four of his NASCAR Cup Series starts, he has one win and a runner-up. All bets are currently on Bell to continue the streak and make it a four-for-four record. He indeed is completely at his place right now, even Toby Christie agrees!

While he is certain that the Xfinity race offers no advantage going into Sunday, there is another driver who believes that the extra track time can provide valuable insights and experience.

Christopher Bell doesn’t have faith that the Xfinity race run will in any way shape or form help him during the cup races. But Hendrick Motorsports driver Alex Bowman sure does think so. Talking to the press, he admitted, he for sure would use the additional track time from driving on Friday and Saturday to get an edge for the cup race. He said, “Hopefully those extra laps on Friday and Saturday will help me gain some additional insight on the track before Sunday’s race. Our Ally Racing team is working diligently to try and put the #48 back in the victory lane.”

And while Christopher Bell has two victories to his name this season and has secured his way to the playoffs, Bowman hasn’t. But though he has no wins yet, his performance has a good pace. Currently, he sits 66 points above the playoff cutoff line. But racing on a track as tricky as Magic Mile ahead of the main race, sure does give a major advantage. And that no one can deny! One even takes advantage of getting those practices done during tire tests. Remember Joey Logano? Hence, a race ahead of Sunday could very much make the difference between winning and crashing out!
