The Charlotte Motor Speedway just saw the echoing of one driver, Kyle Larson, and his attempt to double that was the spotlight. After all, it’s no easy feat, and he had been preparing for months! But while his attempt went under the water (quite literally), it was Christopher Bell who stole all the spotlight from him. Even though Bell was booed and bashed by the fans, the fact remains that he won!

While the JGR driver sits 11th with 387 pts. in the Cup Series standings, he has not yet marked his dominance in the cup race. He still showed interest in attempting “the double.” As they say, fortune comes to those who believe; well, it might just work out for him.

Christopher Bell was an unexpected winner at the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte. Recently, he talked to Kevin Harvick on the Happy Hour podcast. Harvick asked whether he was interested in doing the double since Bell is an extremely versatile driver. To that, Bell said, “I would certainly love to do it. And growing up being an open-wheel racer, like I am, that’s obviously a race and something that I have always wanted to do.” However, what he said after revealed an air of doubt and highlighted the inferiority complex he might be feeling against his competitors on the grid.

Bell further added, “I have always wanted to do [Indy], um, but doing them both on the same day, like I‌’m definitely not to that point in my career yet. And, and, and, you know, if I could get my cup deal going a little better where I’m more consistent weekend and week out and could feel confident enough, like putting the focus on something as big as that, then, you know, maybe in the future, in the far-out future, I would, I would entertain doing both of them on one day.”

This just highlights the fact that he feels that he hasn’t been performing at his best. Christopher Bell knows that he can do better, and right now that’s his goal—to become better as the Cup races unfold. Currently, he sits at 11 on the point table with 387 points.

Doing a double seems like a far-fetched dream, which he can only do once he reaches the likes of Kyle Larson or Denny Hamlin. But Bell isn’t the only one who has expressed interest in attempting the double. While Larson might be planning to attempt the same feat in 2025, he might just have competition there too, as he has certainly opened a floodgate to “the double craze.”

Doing the double, i.e., two races in a single day is not a piece of cake. As we have seen, anything can go wrong. The weather could be sunny and pleasant one day and just ruin it all, just like it did for Larson at the main event.

But despite the result, drivers have been intrigued by what Larson has attempted and wanted to give it a go. Just like Christopher Bell, another driver wants to give it a go. Except this time the driver is from the other side—the current Indy 500 winner and Penske driver Josef Newgarden. He is no simpleton to the motorsport world, and with his back-to-back wins, he just said that he wants to do the double “terribly bad.”

Josef said, per a Jayski report, “I love NASCAR racing, too. I want to go run the double. And I think we need some IndyCar representatives to show the other way around on it. It’d be really fun.”

When Joey Logano was asked about the prospect, he shared candidly that the transition might come with its hurdles, but he expressed hope, saying, “Closer than ever.”

Joey Logano further went on to draw parallels as he compared Josef Newgarden’s potential dip into NASCAR and Shane van Gisbergen’s smooth transition into American stock cars. Logano remarked that while he can see it happening, he thinks it might take some time before it becomes a reality. What do you think? Now that Larson has shown a benchmark feat, will more drivers attempt it?
