RFK Racing‘s resurgence and its driver Chris Buescher‘s rise to the top is the stuff of legends, for sure. The Texas native became a championship contender within a month, taking home 3 wins in the regular season’s last 5 races. The #17 driver ended the regular season with a bang, acing the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at the Daytona International Speedway with a spectacular finish. The finish was picture-perfect for the team, with both of its drivers coming first and second. But it seems the 1-2 finished wasn’t cherished much.

However, as the action reaches the gates of Bristol Motor Speedway for the final race, Buescher and his teammate/boss need a win to advance further. Recently the driver came up with some starking comments about his boss, revealing how everything isn’t that fine and well at the Ford camp.

Compared to Tony Stewart‘s SHR, which was once a Ford powerhouse, RFK Racing has really seen the tables turn in 2023. Unlike Stewart’s 4-car team that only has 1 car in the playoffs, RFK Racing has both of its drivers in the playoffs with stellar back-to-back wins.

Buescher and his teammate/boss, Brad Keselowski, finished 1-2 at Daytona, the first time for the team since 2014. While it was Buescher’s third win of the season, it was indeed at the expense of veteran Keselowski, who pushed his driver to the finish in the closing laps. Though this got both drivers into the playoffs – Buescher with 3 wins and Keselowski solely on points, a recent conversation on NASCAR Live revealed that the veteran co-owner is not so happy.

When asked, “What’s the dynamic like, you know, do you guys break each other’s chops about that?” Buescher replied with caution, saying, I try not to. Because I don’t know how he’s gonna take it just yet but he was a factor to win at Richmond and Michigan too. So it’s not that you know that we’ve had these where we dominate. We’ve been around each other all these races. So it is challenging.”

He then added, “He made a decision that RFK was going to be 1-2 first, before RFK was pulling one and 15th, it was at the expense of his winning that race but he got us our 1-2 finish. I’m under no type of illusion that he was happy that, not completely anyway. I know how badly he wants to win, we’re all competitors. But I think he certainly likes it from the ownership side of things.”

While the team and its drivers are performing well, the #17 driver also mentioned how things are different when you have a teammate/boss around you. He said, I’m not about to go here and start poking the bear. Maybe… maybe I would’ve if he was just a teammate. But even there I feel like that’s pushing your luck and especially with him being on the boss side of things too. I’m not about to go hit those buttons.”

Last year this time around, Chris Buescher picked up an impressive win at Bristol under the lights. While the driver made it into the playoff 16 with 3 wins under his belt, a win at Bristol is certain to cement his berth in the found of 12. Now that is a reality. The driver has a chance to advance into the next round with a win on his favorite track.

Not only did the driver break his 222-race winless streak last year, but it also brought the once-prominent Ford team back into the picture. According to WCYB.com, Buescher said, “We have to come into Bristol guns blazing. We want to win this thing. This night racing, at Bristol, has been on my bucket list for a very long time. To get that one last year was truly special. It’s going to be fun.”
