Le Mans is merely a few days away and Hendrick Motorsports is fully prepared to showcase its utmost performance in the highly anticipated 24-hour race. The team, in collaboration with the best production company Chevrolet under the Garage 56 project, is working under the proficient management of John Doonan, President of IMSA. They have also assembled an excellent lineup of drivers, including Jimmie Johnson, Jenson Button, and Mike Rockenfeller, to tackle the hardest and most lengthy race.

Continuing their pursuit of excellence, Hendrick Motorsports and Garage 56 have decided to enlist the expertise of another exceptional coach for the project. They have chosen Chase Elliott’s replacement at COTA, who brings with him a wealth of invaluable racing experience, to play a crucial role at Le Mans.

During the autograph session on Tuesday, Jordan Taylor caught everyone’s attention as he sported a “COACH” T-shirt and carried a coach’s whistle. With his vast racing experience, including seven appearances at Le Mans and a victory in the 2015 Le Mans GTE-Pro class with Chevy, Taylor seems to be the perfect man for the job!

“I’ve been enjoying it,” Taylor said when asked about his experience, “and I think now that I’m learning each car and different series, it’ll just keep getting better and more understanding what the cars can do.”

Filling in for Chase Elliott, he delivered an exceptional performance, securing a fourth-place finish in the qualifying. Unfortunately, his result at COTA was disappointing, as he ultimately finished in 24th place.

Recognizing Taylor’s outstanding abilities, HMS team president Jeff Andrews said. “We absolutely, 100 percent would give Jordan another opportunity if something arose within our camp”

Clearly, another great opportunity has presented itself to Jordan Taylor. This time, he has been offered the role of a coach. However, Team owner Rick Hendrick expressed his disappointment over not being able to provide Taylor with a chance to drive the car at Le Mans.

He stated, “He’s got so much talent, he can do it,” Hendrick said. “He is an unbelievable road racer, unbelievable communicator, and just a perfectionist, so he’s put his heart and soul in this car. I hate we couldn’t run four drivers (at Le Mans). I’d love to see him have an opportunity. We might have him in a car again, in NASCAR.

Taylor has a brand new role to perform for the Garage 56 project. As a coach, he is bringing his valuable notes on the car characteristics of the No. 24 Camaro after testing. He has even written reports for teammates Jimmie Johnson and Jenson Button. Taylor has his playbook ready, and it is providing the rest of the team with a sense of peace and reassurance.

Even driver Jimmie Johnson praised Taylor, saying, “He has the most current and in-depth GT experience, and that’s basically what this car is or the closest thing it is to. So he’s done a phenomenal job in the car, and I wish we could run four (drivers) because he is so deserving of the formal label.”

Regarding his coaching strategy, Taylor stated, “I think there’s no games to play for us – just go as fast as possible. But yes, it’s very good. I think it shocked a lot of people, which is exciting, I think. I’m glad it’s surprising people because I think a lot of people didn’t respect it as much as they should’ve, and now they’re seeing that it’s a proper race car, a proper program that everyone took very seriously coming into this.”
