The tragic snowboarding accident had Chase Elliott sit out of the races for six weeks. His announcement to return for this week’s race at Martinsville has everyone in the NASCAR fraternity excited. Along with fans, the Hendrick Motorsports team, and his sponsor of ten years, NAPA, all cannot wait to see Elliott bring in some magic this weekend. NAPA had some really good things to say about the HMS team’s strategy during Elliott’s absence.

One of NASCAR’s most popular drivers competed in the first two races of the 2023 Cup Series season before he broke the tibia bone in his leg while snowboarding in Colorado. Josh Berry took the wheel of the #9 in five out of those six races, while Jordan Taylor ran the one at COTA. And as per Sports Business Journal, Elliott’s primary sponsor NAPA Auto Parts said they were very satisfied with the way that Hendrick Motorsports handled the situation around his absence.

The comeback news of Elliott was a relief for his longtime sponsor, NAPA. They invest and spend millions on the team annually and also have the majority of paint scheme positions on the #9 Chevrolet Camaro. Adam Stern, referring to what Kevin Herron, President, and COO of NAPA said, posted it on his Twitter. He wrote, “Obviously when you have a Chase Elliott who has won a championship once and is NASCAR’s most popular driver, you miss that (when he’s out). … But what they have done is make sure to protect our brand and push for us during the few weeks of his absence.”

While the officials at NAPA called it a ‘few-week blip’ about the absence of the star racer, they were very pleased with how things worked out with the substitute driver lineup that HMS had arranged. They had faith in the Hendrick group to have relief drivers of the quality of Chase. And it worked in their favor as Josh Berry and Jordan Taylor performed well. Josh Berry earned a massive second position at the Richmond race, which contributed immensely to both HMS and NAPA.

Though Elliott was missing from the tracks, the HMS team made sure that whatever they did, they kept NAPA and all other sponsors in the center. All of these actions helped the brand stay protected. NASCAR’s viewership ratings on Fox and FS1 grew from single to double-digit levels after Elliott’s injury.

NASCAR fans had some good things to say for the team, as well as Xfinity driver Josh Berry, who gave his best. By looking at his Cup Series performance, some fans feel he needs to be shown more in the telecasts. Though Chase Elliott is back and flaunting a new look, it is indeed commendable for the entire team and their efforts to let the mishap affect anyone badly. Check out what some fans have to say.
