Back in 2018, Chase Elliott made an appearance on the Glass Case of Emotion podcast hosted by Ryan Blaney. Over there, they spoke on a number of subjects, and one of them was about fellow NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace. As it turned out, Wallace filled in for Blaney after the latter was absent on account of a wedding.

During that particular segment, Wallace got a chance to talk to Dale Earnhardt Jr over the phone. Later on, Blaney found out about the situation and probably had to endure some of his friend’s bragging. The Team Penske driver said, “They were telling me that Bubba had covered my shift last week because I was at the wedding. He had Dale call in, they were like, ‘Oh! That’s pretty special!’. I said, ‘Well I got Chase Elliott in the damn flesh’. So I’m solidifying my job, so thank you.”

In the same podcast, the Hendrick Motorsports driver accepted Blaney’s gratitude for helping him out. He also revealed that the #12 driver nearly backed out of attending the wedding. According to Elliott, he made the excuse that he had too many things on his plate. However, he changed his mind in five minutes, and that made the #9 driver like his attitude.

A few years later, the two drivers are gearing up for the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series. While both of them made it into the Playoffs, Elliott made it as far as Championship 4. Blaney’s feat was a bit impressive, considering that he had not won a single race all year. Meanwhile, poor old Elliott got a little unlucky during the season finale at Phoenix, last weekend.

This was because, he got ‘spun around’ by Ross Chastain in the middle of the race, and it hampered his chances. In the end, he could only muster 28th on the track, while his rivals all finished in the Top 10. Now, he will be aiming to try and win his second Cup Series title when 2023 kicks off.
