Back in 1988, Bill Elliott clinched his one and only Winston Cup Series championship. Nearly 22 years later, his son Chase Elliott has followed in his footsteps with the Cup Series title. Recently, the ESPN Twitter handle posed a question, asking their followers about a sports picture they consider unforgettable.
The younger Elliott responded with a picture of his father celebrating the 1988 Winston Cup title. Although Bill only has that one solitary championship, he can boast of several other accolades.
To be precise, he has won the Daytona 500 on two occasions, in 1985 and 1987. Bill Elliott also won the 2002 Brickyard 400, as well as the Southern 500 thrice, and the Winston 500.

Of course, Chase Elliott himself has a number of accolades under his belt. However, there may be a bit of pressure on the 25-year-old to emulate his father. The good news is that he is still young and just reaching his prime, so there is plenty of time for him to set the statistics alight.

Chase Elliott has to focus on the 2021 campaign
As it happens, the younger Elliott is in a position where he has to defend his title for the first time. His father was also in a similar position in the 1989 season, and he was unable to retain the crown. So far, Chase seems to be doing a reasonable job in the Hendrick Motorsports car. However, the season has only just begun, and there is plenty of time for the tides to change.
Safe to say, it could be a while before the 25-year-old manages to get in the groove. All he needs to do is get a few wins on the scoreboard, get in the playoffs, and make it through to the finale and win.

This is a lot easier said than done, especially since he has some really strong teammates and competition from other teams. Nevertheless, the Georgia native will try his hardest to persevere.
