As NASCAR action heads to The Tricky Triangle this week, the organization’s golden boy and Hendrick Motorsports ace driver, Chase Elliott, is looking for a major turnaround to keep alive his championship hopes. Eyeing a win to make it into the playoffs, the 2020 Cup Series champ blasts back to the past, recalling how veteran Denny Hamlin gave him his fourth win last season.

Though Joe Gibbs Racing‘s negligence got Hamlin’s win handed over to 3rd place finisher Elliott. However, lightning never strikes in the same place twice, as the #9 driver needs to work for it this time around at the Pocono 400. Speaking to the media ahead of his much-anticipated run, Elliott shared how his Coca-Cola 600 adversary gave him the trophy.

While things are all the more dire with HMS needing 60 points to make it into the playoffs, the HMS star also revealed the best track, promising him his first victory of this season.

While the current season is nowhere near what HMS or Chase Elliott anticipated it to be, the driver still has a chance to spearhead into the playoffs with a stellar win. And you just can’t write off the champ even in such a precarious scenario, much like Denny Hamlin, who is of the opinion that “Chase is still going to make it.”

However, as we near another exciting race week, the 27-year-old driver recently recalled his shocking win over race finisher Denny Hamlin last year. Hamlin, the driver with the most number of wins at Pocono Raceway, got stuffed last year, giving the win to third-place finisher Elliott as NASCAR cited the use of illegal components on the #11 Toyota’s nose.

Though the veteran driver is still the favorite to ace Pocono’s tricky turns, Elliott’s recent revelation show Hamlin as the great father he is.

When asked about the trophy, Elliott said, “He actually gave me the trophy, but he kept the flag though because I think his little girl was pretty married to the flag. So, it was all good. I appreciate him sending me the trophy though we didn’t win it outright. I would have certainly rather won it the way he won it, but maybe this year.”

Now, what fascinates the community is the rarity, considering this is the modern era of racing, which literally shocks the fans. While Hamlin’s then-teammate Kyle Busch crossed the finish line second, NASCAR wrote off the veteran’s win, handing the decision to Elliott, giving him his fourth win.

Exuding positivity, he said, “I hope here this weekend, you know, my thought process really since all this has happened is that we were going to have to win you know, and that kind of what everybody was saying you know until we got a few good weeks of points and then everybody’s like, oh he can point his way in, so the storylines can change pretty fast.”

Subtly mocking the statistics and predictions, the driver sort of sides with Hamlin’s prediction of the #9 driver blasting his way into the playoffs with a stellar win rather than relying solely on points. What do you think? Will Chase Elliott be able to capitalize here at Pocono, or will the veteran Denny Hamlin get back his win?
