Over the years, there have been several second and third-generation drivers in NASCAR. A lot of them have also turned out to be massive success stories. Chase Elliott is one such person. He is the son of the 1988 winner of the Winston Cup Series, Bill Elliott. Chase himself has turned out to be a huge success. However, the 28-year-old believes that his child would be better off without racing.

Chase Elliott is simply loved by racing fans. Despite having one of his worst seasons in the Cup Series, the Hendrick Motorsports star still bagged the Most Popular Driver award. A lot of people did not see that coming, given that he did not even make the playoffs. His dad is also a 16-time winner of the same award. So why does he not want the family legacy to continue?

Racing may be in Chase Elliott’s blood but that is not the only sport that he is in love with. The driver of the #9 is an avid golfer and if reports are to be believed, he is pretty good at it as well. Elliott’s online store even sells golf merchandise like markers, golf balls, and tees. It seems like that is the way the 2020 Cup Series champion wants the next generation of his family to go.

In a recent episode of The Pure Athlete Podcast, Chase Elliott was asked if he would want his child to be a racer. Being the son of a motorsports athlete himself, a lot of people might have expected him to answer affirmatively. However, the 28-year-old suggested that he would prefer if his child turned out to be a professional golfer.

“I’d like for him to get on tour if I had a choice. I’d like for him to get on tour and visit some really nice golf courses over the course of his life. No look, if I ever had a kid, whatever he wants to do…you know my mom did want me to play golf and she jokes about this all the time,” Chase Elliott said.

“She’s like, man I don’t know why you didn’t listen to me…I do love golf too but whatever the kid wants to do, obviously I’m not gonna steer him in a different direction. If he has a passion about something, that’s great,” Elliott added.

Chase Elliott has a point to prove next year. The Georgia-born driver had a horrid time this year and he will be looking to make a comeback to form in 2024. After winning the Most Popular Driver award, the HMS star had fighting words for his fans.
